I was a huge Street Fighter II dork when the game first came out. I played it up until the first Alpha, I think. I owned at that game, I'm ashamed to say. I would go to the arcade with 50 cents and play all day.

My all-time favorite has to be Ken/Ryu. Either/Or depending on who the other cheap bastard bitch "Hadouken, Hadouken, Shoryuken" no skill bastard cheap bitch was playing.

A sentimental favorite would be Guile on the original Street Fighter II. The reason being, that I could out-cheap anyone who beat me cheaply. I'd use my next quarter to pick Guile and Magic Throw them to death or Handcuff them. Or if they were really cheap, like they constantly threw me while I was blocking, I'd "Warp" the game with Guile locking up the machine. So yeah... Huge Dork.

Also, a nod to Sakura, though by that time I wasn't going to arcades much. I just liked her because (a) she was a hot japanese schoolgirl who idolized Ryu who in my lonely adolescent mind was really me, and (b) I could play her exactly like Ken/Ryu who by that time were the only guys who I could still play well.

Street Fighter II, damn! I think the easiest way to measure the amount of time i spent on that game is in months. I never played any other SF games than that one though.

I liked that creepy monster like guy, Baracca or something. Don't know if he was in the original or whatever, but i liked him. My favorite trick was to play against someone who'd choose the Russian guy, and bite him in the nats :) Honda was cool too, specially when his arm freaked out. Insane. He could fly across the screen horizontally too i think, like a torpedo of a sort. Bleedin crazy.

So i guess i was something of a SFII dork as well. However, i played most my time on an Amiga, not in arcades (arcades were non-existant here at the time), so i might have been playing a different version. I remember one thing cheaty that was a character called Dhalzim i think. This Indian guy who could stretch his arms and legs across the screen. Fun, but considered cheating.

Ack, now i feel like playing it again.

Blanka is the bloke you're thinking of, I think.

I liked Honda, too. His thousand hand slap was annoying as hell, and being crap at the game I used it all the time against better opponents.

Hahaaaaa...that movie was so funny. I couldn't believe how dumb the whole thing was. It pissed off a lot of non-Americans who watched it because they cast Guile as the hero in the film. They would, of course.

And Charlie was this friend of Guile's who got brainwashed into the monster named Blanka! That was hilarious. In the game he's Guile's superior, who sacrifices himself in Alpha 3.

Oh, well actually moving animation is called anime, while manga is the word to use for Japanese comics. Just so happens that a company named "Manga" started producing anime. Think of an American (or British, if you prefer) company called "Comics" churning out cartoons.

50 cents? You must have been a pro or something. though I do remember that the moves in SFII took up a whopping chunk of your bar every time you were hit.

    E. Honda? Well wouldn't Chun Li have been a better cheapo character? She has that Hyakuretsu Kyaku move (also known as The Annoying Kicks). She's a lot faster too.

The way Capcom handled Blanka was funny (in a weird way). In SFII he was this mean, green monster who could suck your blood and emit electricity, but in Alpha they turned him into this funny, chunky green Barney who could suck blood and emit electricity. He provides the comic relief with Dan in the game.

I never liked Mortal Kombat because you had to use a separate button to block; and didn't think much of Tekken because - well, I'm simply not good at it.

Actually, Sega is now making a lot of games for Nintendo. Ironic isn't it? What was once the greatest rivalry in electronic entertainment is now a profitable partnership.

Sega are also making games for the other platforms I believe, but they're doing most of their work for Nintendo.

    Welcome to the forum!

Was just wondering if this post was gonna die - guess it didn't

I realised I haven't stated my favourite char yet; it's Sakura Kasugano. A lot of people think she's just another Shotokan-er (read: a clone of Ryu, Ken, and Akuma) but she isn't. She's fast, she's sassy, and she's cool. Killing an opponent with her taunt is a very satisfying experience. She has the best winning poses in the game.

Of course, she has this whole Japanese-schoolgirl-with-a-crush thing going for her too

Sagat isn't as powerful as he used to be - those Tigers are pretty easy to counter (especially if you're playing someone short, like Sakura). His Rising Tiger and Uppercuts are another thing altogether though.

They made Sagat less harsh in Alpha 3 somehow. In Alpha 1 and 2 he was this fallen Thai Emperor out to get Ryu. See, in Stree Fighter 1 the story went something like: Sagat organizes an SF tournament to show the world that he is the best fighter ever. Young Ryu joins the competition, and works his way up to a final showdown with Sagat. Sagat, champion that he is, proceeds to hand it to Ryu like he's never had it before (i.e. thrash the living daylights out of Ryu). Ryu's down and out for the count.

Sagat holds out a hand to Ryu to help him up, knowing that Ryu has lost the match. At that moment Ryu is just so intent on winning that he just doesn't know what he is doing. He becomes a Super Saiya and his hair turns yellow. Heh - just kidding. The power of Dark Hadou envelops him (It's the same power that Akuma uses) and he creams Sagat with an ultra-powerful SyoRyuKen (Dragon Punch). Sagat loses the tournament.

What happens after that is something like this: Ryu goes home to ask his master about what happened, and finds his master (who, by the way, is not named Sheng Long) murdered by a mysterious stranger (Akuma, though he doesn't know it yet). Sagat (who now has a huge scar from that SyoRyuKen) is usurped by a new Muay Thai emperor, Adon. He swears that he'll track ryu down and avenge himself.

Note: Sagat's missing eye wasn't the work of Ryu. Dan (the guy with the ridiculous pink gi)'s father did that. Sagat killed his father after that.
