Yup, a tribute to my favorite item from my favorite game. Sadly, it doesn't throw balls of electrified goodness. I have to be satisfied with it being a big ass flash light.

All you need is a powerful battery, and make sure that you wear rubber boots when you run into irritating people.

At the very least, converting it to work along the lines of a cattle prod should be doable.

Oh my, indeed a Tesla Rod it is! Nice one, Archmage. I would whistle if I had the capability to do so.

Shoot me for gravedigging but I gotta say this is one of the coolest threads we got here. Lets get some more steampunk happening!

    Tabletop Steampunk

It would seem that my best steampunk finds are when my matches during a Magic tournament are going most poorly.

Under such circumstances I was perusing a rotating book display at my local game shop and happened upon a campaign supplement for Etherscope, a D20-based role-playing game system replete with steampunk elements (for example cybernaughtics). Following further research on the Internet, I found that Etherscope is set in a world as comparable to turn-of-the-century Shadowrun as Arcanum is, albeit leaning more toward the technological aspect. Where Etherscope may lack the fantasy element (or it may not; I simply haven't happened upon any references to magic in what I've read of Etherscope, although there are a variety of races based on crude genetic manipulation), it certainly has The Matrix aspect of Shadowrun in "Etherspace." Regarding its applicability to Arcanum, one individual seeking to adapt Arcanum to a table-top experience was advised to use the Etherscope rules in a thread at paizo.com.

As favorable as the reviews may have been for Etherscope there does not appear to be support for it any longer. This is good news for the steampunk or role-playing enthusiast as Etherscope source books are available for $3 (USD) at paizo.com. Only hard copy (albeit soft cover) versions are available for this low price, but digital copies are available as well. Personally, I wouldn't give a pound of soot for the digital PDF copies until I have acquired an eReader for less than $50; I seek a portable and tactile quality for those occasions I choose read!

This thread is like the joke thread. It's immune to gravedigging.

One of those would make a fantastic gift to a friend of mine, who was mugged in Philly and lost his flask.

    Steampunk Episode of ABC's Castle

A forgettable episode, but steampunk nonetheless.

Season 3 Episode 4. Episode is called Punked. Here's a YouTube clip of the main steampunk part, there are 2 or 3 more scenes in the later half of the episode.

Thanks magikot. Those clips sure beat wading through the rest of the programming.

Yeah. It's such a shame that this episode was so poor; the season started on such a high note.

I find this pretty damn relevant to this thread but not important enough to create a new thread about it.

A friend of mine recommended a very steam punky movie called La City des enfants perdus (City of Lost Children). The story is pretty simple: A scientist is kidnapping children so he can steal their dreams. By doing this, he hopes to live longer. I haven't seen the movie myself, but I'll try to find a copy pretty soon. Even if the movie was made in 1995 and the special effects might not be all that impressive, I still think this might be a really good.

    Here's the trailer:
