    No.
It had a couple of 40MB hard drives.
    Yes, that's right. Megs.
I only had to reload the system when there was a fuck-up.
Such as when I tried to backup the secondary user mount space and tossed the wrong command argument to tar.
I turned the mounted device into one HUGH cooked file.
Stupid kernel argued about any work around we tried, so a reload and restore was necessary.
Then there was the time that the other SA (who trained me) thought he was in a buried subdirectory and did a recursive delete.
Turned out he was in the root directory and the system ate itself alive.
Primary example as to why you shouldn't use the super user account (root) as your primary login.

40 megs? You rich bastard. I vaguely remember having an 8mb or similar in something once.

I've still got a couple ~50meg harddrives along with those massive floppy readers, I think.

It wasn't mine...the National Guard was footing the bill.
    I just 'owned' it.
and all the user accounts. :p

I really like this picture. I wish there was a poster of it.

I would love to set up an old comp or two again, so I can play my ancient games. Sadly, I lack the space/parts... :(

There are no emulators for those old games?

It's not the same, you quite often have to fuck with the settings in the emulators to get it to work, and even then it's just not the same.

True, but if you use your TV as your monitor and use a gamepad, games like Super Mario Kart get close enough.

Super Mario Kart is easily played by buying a SNES for $45 or less.

If you actually believe it's worth that much...

    Also,

Which excites me somewhat, geekily enough

Except the mouse on the left looks awkward and somewhat clunky...

It most certainly is, unless you get it off some fool who doesn't know what they're selling for cheaper.

Its not a mouse to start with.

And Jake von Slatt has since built an even better steampunk PC, his work is amazing.

Eh, it was dark, this screen is small and I was tired.

Thanks for the name, though. Quick google for 'Steamtop' didn't really show anything

That is one classy clock. Propably a little unfriendly for the brain, though.

It has Death Stars, pro-Imperial propaganda and 9/11 reference.

    Perfect pic.
