You don't get laid because you're old and gay. Not much call for that sort of thing these days...In fact, there never was.

Edit - damn you guys for derailing Fatman's question about his internet connection at home. I shall now attempt to help him...

Fatman, are you sure you can send packets out, but can't receive? Your network card is not going to be able to assemble packets but not be able to receive them. Trying pinging or tracerouting something - if you get no response to anything, then check that your router and modem are functioning correctly. If they are, try pinging 127.0.0.1 - the computer will try ping itself. If it fails, then it's your computer. If it works, then I'm almost definitely sure that the fault is somewhere else. Then again, pinging yourself could bypass your network card completely...

That's about as much help as I can give based on what you've told me. If you give me more info, I can most likely help some more. I'm kind of studying this stuff at the moment :).

Pinging myself - good idea. I hadn't thought of that.

As for the packets, yes I am sure it is sending but not receiving. I don't know how that could happen. Maybe the transceiver on my network adapter is fucked in a new and interesting way.

I don't want to wait 4-6 weeks to swap my motherboard, so I suspect I'll be going out to by a PCI network card tomorrow. IF that doesn't fix the problem, I'll happily take it back and swaer at the shop clerk until he refunds my money.

Milo, is "I have family visiting" one of those sanitary issue euphemisms?

Hel Khat, I was happy to see your back too ... or is that you're back? Damn, I can never get those two straight.   3:)  :D :cool:_

Jar, I just installed a new network adapter and it cured the problem. That means it was either the network adapter or the drivers. Since the drivers were working fine, and I re-installed them a coupla times since the problem started, I think it means my month old onboard LAN went buggedy buggedy.

    I'm back online - wooohooo.

I'm betting heat fried it. That's what (I think at any rate) happened to the network adapter on this computer. Piece of shit. Never trust onboard network cards, except on laptops, but only because you have no choice most of the time.

Sheriff, I just realised a simpler way to tell if your card works - there's a light next to the jack where the network cable goes in. If it's on, your card is working properly, if it's off, it's not.

On another side note, I wish you'd go fuck yourself with a gun with a hair trigger.
