I played like over a thousand in total on red/blue and gold/silver. That stupid game was quite addictive for a hand held before we had the PSP an DS.

Very true. The crystal, Sapphire and Ruby versions unfortunately made the games more and more monotonous.

BAH! Friggin' Pokemon. Now, trying to catch some of the monsters in Final Fantasy Tactics, that was a challenge.

Or learning all monster magic as a blue mage in any FF game. Or deciding that every character in FF5 should become Masters at all trades. Even with the emulator turbo button and immoral abuse of the arrow keys, the sheer tedium is likely to burn a hole through your cerebral cortex.

Being a Blue Mage is utter hell in any FF game. Even in FFVII, those Enemy Skills were a bitch to get.

Having said which, I did enjoy that afternoon I spent in FFXI, taking my brand new Red Mage on a Blue Magic hunt with a low-level Blue Mage. Dia is my favourite spell of all time, full stop. Running around mindlessly escorting a tarutaru was about the best thing I ever did in that game.

In blue/red, charmeleon was crap in the first two (or three?) gyms. Squirtle was ordinary against the first two and then bad against Lt. Surge (electric guy). However, bulbasaur was super effective against the first two. The way it was designed, grass was for beginners, fire was hard to begin with and the most effective in the end. They have kind of forgotten that logic in the latter games.

For example, when you duel Ash Ketchum as the final opponent of gold/silver/crystal, his venusaur will be simply casting sunny day and using solar beam without having to charge between turns. Beginning of the game was not easier with grass either, since the first gym leader had pidgeotto with accuracy-lowering attack, so there was no other way than defeating him with solo geodude all the time.

Berries and new moves made the game a bit worse, too. Mew I caught in blue had metronome and mimic, and the both moves were messed up in later games. Metronome by having too many non-damaging moves, mimic simply because it was the best move of earlier games, now it is just mini-transform and does not even give you full pp in the learned move.

    No, no, no.

    Bulbasaur beats everything.

Now write that a thousand times. All of you.

My PSP and I wait with bated breath for the January release of the English remake of Star Ocean 2. It's called Second Evolution. I took one look the the redesign of Noel and Ashton, squealed loud enough to deafen the dead, and preordered it soon afterwards.

Star Ocean: The Second Story is one of the greatest RPGs ever made. If you own a PSP and enjoy RPGs with epic stories and awesome characters, you owe it to yourself to get a copy of this game.

Okay, it's 4:45 and I'm tired. Xiao go sleep now. (Preorder Second Evolution!!)

Your basic Melee/Dodge Technological fighter with a Pyrotechnic Axe, Electric armor etc is your typical Arcanum cookie-cutter.

I'll take him out with one move: disintegrate. There's no beating a mage with disintegrate. As simple as that.

I'm kidding, of course. Bulbasaur's the best, of course, but that's common knowledge (by now).

I'm kind of inclined towards Techie characters. I don't like it very much that mages need constant supplies of fatigue potions.

Also, try and disintegrate me with my 100% Tech apt.

Viktor, though the spell checks for TA and claims to allow a saving through, it still does over some ridiculous amount of damage. I'm pretty sure I last saw it does 38,000 damage even when the save is made.

    SPOILER FOLLOWS:

I am Nasdurin. Try to disintegrate me with my "no disintegrate"-flag.

Wow, Nasdurin is one of my favorite characters. He is unbateable.

*Disintegrates Dirtman for the presumably unintentional but nevertheless deeply annoying pun*
