Wheel Clan: Getting into the Dredge?

Spoke with the head of the Wheel Clan, he told his father exiled himself and went into the Dredge, there seem to be some other quests relating to it also, however I can't get in. The conversation that I have with the Wheel Clan leader runs around in circles, covering two topics-'what happended to the father' and 'why the BM Clan was banished'. I'm never able to ask permission to get into the dredge, even with an intelligence of 10, I noticed that there is a passage below the throne in the leader's room, I assume if the right topics are available to me,he takes me to the Dredge through the throne.
I'm trying to play an average level intelligence character, it doesn't make sense that I would have to be a rocket scientist to ask permission into the Dredge, anyone know ways around this? How did everyone else get into the Dredge, I'm assuming I have to in order to continue with the main story of the game?
Followed along in the strategy guide, but it only shows one way through each situation, mentioned something about being high enough in intelligence, but once again, I'm saving my points towards other skills and attributes.

 

if you cant get him to let you in, then you have to go out of the throne room, the way you came in, and go to a passage with a guard by it- he should let you. top right ish of the map

 

three things
1)there's a problem where you don't get to ask permission to go past the guard (it's a bug) this means you can...
2)disable/kill the guard at the top of the staircase leading to the dredge(the rest of the dwarves won't notice)
-or-
3)have 3 points of persuasion and the king's son will show you a secret passage into the dredge (i haven't done this one, i'm only reporting what i've been told...)

you need persuation

to get him to let you down the stairs (have to insult him.. call him a lier.. type thing) if you just mean permission so the gaurd will let you through (leave throne room. take right hand (faceing you, not your char) turn and go up... their are the stairs.. a gaurd says you can't go down w/out permission.. if your bugged and the king wont help, kill the gaurd and walk down yourself :razz:

Aacck! Was trying to avoid slaying that poor little Dwarf (I'm playing a good guy), but it looks as if I'll have to, as I tried boosting my Persuasion up to 4 and it didn't help. Damn quirks!! Sierra needs to spit out another patch, and fast!!
