A feature that isn't used here, presumably. At other forums users can join or be put into groups that give them access to different boards. It could be used, say, to sort users into their own Houses at a Harry Potter forum....

Oh, that would be cool to have user groups on here. Not sure what different groups we would have. But it is an interesting concept.

I had seen the button up there and clicked on it and saw nothing was there. Hadn't really thought about it again.

 

On Aozos we use the user groups for various Guilds. It also allows us to segregate moderator status so that each moderator has their own guild.

For example, I'm a Master Scribe (RP Mod), Master Oracle (Know it all :razz: ) and Leader of the Guild of Alchemists (New game world and ruleset development for DnD style gameplay - but better, oh yes ) and thus have moderator status in those three guilds and can use the unique forums there, but I'm just a normal member in most of the others.

It's also used for creating things like Spammer ranks, that limit the access and posting ability of those that have been 'favoured'.

 

But I believe that phpBB needs to have a special mod installed for that function to operate in such a way.
