Whats the meaning of life? Are we here for some grand purpose or are we just fleas on the backside of Mother Earth? Is there some great scheme of things where our lives matter and the things we do actually count for something, or are we just here and make up the reasons as we go? Or more likely, are we just cogs in the machine, slaves to someone elses master plan? Rats in a rat race we didn't create.
you must create your own aims. Edit: it would be fucked up if there were only 1 purpose of life. the "purposelessness" of life is in fact the possibility to choose an arbitary purpose you want to life for.
Probably purpose of life is to live and live up to the death. All other seems to have no sense. I think somebody have already created similar topic...
Wow, you guys are deep. I think I read those on a bumper sticker recently. Let me lighten it up for you:
By asking the the meaning of life, all you're doing is asking us what we think is the best way for us to live individually. You're not going to find the answer for everyone's life in one person's response. Just live, don't think about it. Some things shouldn't be questioned. If you ask for the meaning of life, you'll only get a headache. Then again, that's my opinion.
Fair enough, but I guess what I'm asking isn't what's the meaning of our individual lives, but rather, is there a bigger reason out there? Are we just here just because, or is there some grand scheme of things? Do we all have some Purpose, or are we just ants in an anthill. I'm of the current opinion that we're all just pawns in the hands of a few rich & powerful people, and that Us as individuals dont matter in the scheme of things. Whats the majority of people in developed countries over the age of 20 or so do with their lives? Go to work for some other bastard, who works for somebody else, etc etc. Lemmings I say! All of us. Thats why +90% of the population will say that the meaning of life is simply to live it, or some such. When in fact we're all slaves to someone elses dreams/goals/reasons to live. Is that the whole of it? Buy junk at the store, take what little pleasures we can, and work until we die? And if so, why did the unwashed hoards allow it to happen in the first place, and continue to happen into tomorrow? (Never mind me, I'm just suffering from sleep deprivation at the hands of a wicked tyrant boss.)
If there was a plan we must follow, what purpose does it serve knowing it? If you found out about it you would just be AGAIN playing into the hands of those with the plan. If there's no plan, then what purpose does it serve questioning whether or not one exists? If we are to live in an essentially chaotic system, then what sense of order could your fragile human mind hope to glean from the eternities of time or the nature of life? What is the purpose of thermodynamics? What is the purpose of fluid motion, or Newtonian physics, or special and general relativity? They serve no other purpose but to exist and order the universe to their rules. Life needs no other justification for existance than itself, it is like questioning why an rock is a rock. It's impossible to answer. You can go into lengthy discourses on HOW it is what it is, but why... that's a question for gods and lunatics to answer.
That's all there is to it. Like I said, and like Blinky said (very eloquently), there's no real way to answer your question. If any one of us knew the reason for life as we know it, would we be spending our time at Terra Arcanum? Would we really be anywhere? Knowing is not the answer. It's what you do with your knowledge that is most important. If you knew, would you really benefit anyone by telling them the answer? Again, it isn't in knowing, but in doing, that the question is answered.
