How can one snivelling noob annoy me so much, honestly, if it bothers you that much, resize your window so you can't see it. I'm sitting here in a library, trying to not prevent the assembled part of my college that is here from looking over and thinking I'm into fetish porn, and so, voila, change the window size and scroll over so the names aren't visible. You barely even know what you're saying half the time, it doesn't really matter if you know who you're talking to.

Firstly, as to your preoccupation with the color white, I would like to point out that, much like all those 'virginal, saintly' girls in white you imagine while whacking your chastity-stick, white isn't that pure of a color. White actually possesses equal parts of every other color, making white the whore of the chromatic world. And trust ME when I tell you, chick's that dress in all white usually are straight up, legitimately, freak-nasty in the sack, I recommend them to anyone with good enough acting skills to bang one.

I'm pretty sure Freud had something to say about a being unnaturally attatched to an object, in this case a color, in which the subject identified it with neatness, order, 'goodness.' To wobbler, white is a 'good' color, because it is clean, orderly, not messy. Freud would have said this is do to an error made during his childhood, during the psychosexual development period, particularly the anal stage. Basically, wobbler is anal retentive, and likes to keep his 'shit in order,' white being an attractive symbol to him that resonates the orderliness that he desires. Tubgirl probably strikes a nerve.

 

God, I hate Freud. Sure, he had some interesting ideas and inspired a lot of pyschology research and such, but he was 90% full of crap.

According to Richard Webster, author of Why Freud Was Wrong (1995):

"Freud made no substantial intellectual discoveries. He was the creator of a complex pseudo-science which should be recognized as one of the great follies of Western civilisation. In creating his particular pseudo-science, Freud developed an autocratic, anti-empirical intellectual style which has contributed immeasurably to the intellectual ills of our own era. His original theoretical system, his habits of thought and his entire attitude to scientific research are so far removed from any responsible method of inquiry that no intellectual approach basing itself upon these is likely to endure."

 

It's called 'theory,' but this is one area where, except for his idea about women and penis envy, he's pretty accurate. Freud himself probably had some preoccupation over sex, so a lot of his statements regarding sex are flawed, and he was a great practicioner of assuming himself right and assassinating the character of those who disagreed. About wobbler's particular problem, however, he's at least superficially right on the money.

Richard Webster, however, is a fucking idiot. Psychiatry is not a pseudo-science, nor is psychology. They are less defined sciences than physics or chemistry, perhaps, and the research styles may vary, but that is because in modern mental studies today, you can still only study the effects of the mind, not the causes. Freud himself served an important step in developing a science that works contrary to that preferred by the scientific method, which would have us alter individual facets of a human brain and view the corresponding behavioral change.

All that said, no scientist today considers either of those fields a pseudo-science, and just because Mr. Webster doesn't like it doesn't disprove two fields of science. Aristotle was very unscientific in his approaches; he would toss out any data not in support of his theory, and yet many parts of science and math have a basis in his work.

 

I didn't read that as Webster saying the discipline as a whole is a fake science, just that Freud's theories were. Psychiatry wasn't created by Freud, no does he confuse it with psychology either (at least in this quote).

I'd agree that he certainly caused a lot of progress in the field, but I wouldn't crown him the king of his field of study. Not saying we should throw out his research either, but from the little I've read it seems that a lot of his stuff is being disproven.

Just my opinion.

 

Freud was at many times an idiot from an intellectual standpoint, but his theory about the id, the ego, and the superego, while not proven, is still compelling insight into the mind, and his ideas about the psychosexual stages of development are, at times, very accurate, although they're rife with the issues he had with sex and his own baggage about his parents.

 

However, he even said that sometimes a cigar was just a cigar.

 

I have my own personal belief that he just didn't like turning his own devices upon himself because he didn't like what he saw. His comment about the cigar strikes me as proof because he rarely made such exemptions for things he didn't do.

 

The way I understood his saying it was that not everything you see is sexual.
Of course, his saying it may infer that he frequently saw cigars in his dreams.

 

Well, he might have meant that, and that would be true, but he certainly didn't seem to imply that in his practice.

 

Yeah, it definitely makes more sense that way.
Someone as "straight-laced" as Freud would definitely find himself at wit's end had he analyzed his own dreams "properly".
