As I was going home yesterday, the situation in Iraq was on my mind. I started thinking about the freedoms I enjoy, the sense of security... It hit me that, although the evil dictatorship in Iraq will soon be brought down, not a thing has changed in my life. Think about it. I went home, played with my dog, kissed my wife, worked in my garden, fed my animals, went inside, watched t.v., ate supper, played Kate Archer on the p.c., then played baseball with a buddy that brought over his P.S. 2. Just another day in paradise. And that's the point. My forefathers have paid a terrible price just so that I may do all of the above, without fear, without asking permission, without looking nervously towards the sky for missles raining down... Do you not think that the people of Iraq, who have lived in fear for decades, scared to do anything or do nothing, for fear of being killed, raped, gassed, tortured, made to watch their families die? So what is so funny about Operation: Iraqi Freedom? I don't see anything funny at all. If, by removing an evil person, the people of Iraq can enjoy a better, hope-filled future, what's so bad about it? I'm just sick to death of the anti-Americanism, especially from Americans. What did you do yesterday? Did you think for one minute about the freedom you enjoy? Did you remember where and how it came about? But, go on. Bash America. It didn't start yesterday, and it won't stop tomorrow. I'm through with the whole deal. I don't know that I'll be around here much more, as the fun outta this place has just ..... left. Besides, I miss Sheriff Fatman.
Don't leave retard! There may be a bunch of crazy liberals here, but there are still a few conservatives and patriotic Americans kicking around. We need your guidance and support in many political debates and arguements to come! And besides, the Anti-Americanism will most likely strongly decrease when the war goes as quickly and as easily as it will, just like the first Gulf War. Popular opinion reversed in Europe and strengthened in the US very quickly after the Gulf War started.
You know, that's kind of ironic. I was pondering leaving because there's a bunch of crazy conservatives here. I'm responding because I know I'm one of those 'crazy liberals'. Don't leave retard. Just because our views don't coincide, is no reason to give up. We may not agree with each other, and we are obviously both very passionate about our beliefs, but that's what makes the debate interesting. I was both irritated and glad to find someone who challenges my views. After several years of posting on another, very liberal board, I got bored 'preaching to the choir' as it were. It's not a debate if everyone agrees. While I refuse to apologize for my views; nor would I expect you to, I will apologize for any seemingly personal attacks I've made. Again, we are both very passionate about our beliefs. With that level of passion, it's difficult to remain objective in an argument. And as I've said before, I'm not anti-American. I am, however anti-bush, and extremely cynical where big goverment and big business are concerned. Especially when it appears that they are in bed with each other, and laws are being pushed that benefit only the wealthy. I am also, (to use one of your apparently favorite words) extremely anti-jingoist. Extreme nationalism, in the past, has led to naught but oppression and facism. And cold wars. And hot wars. Crazy liberal? Well, maybe. Sometimes my facts are a little blurred. Show me one person who hasn't been at least a little blinded in their life. But rather than 'crazy liberal' or 'bleeding heart' I'd prefer watchdog. The only way to prevent oppression by any government; any majority, is to speak out against it. To question oppressive bills and laws. To question actions taken by governments. Again, I say, please don't leave. I *enjoy* the fact that my views are challenged. Make me think, as you've done so far. Make sure I'm not the one wearing blinders. If you do choose to leave, well good luck to you, and this will become a much more boring place to be.
*ties retard down* where'd you think YOU were going! just now I'm almost back... you talk about leaving... and oh... SF LEFT!!!!!!!!!!!!  why do I always miss these things..... yeah yeah.. rub it in... I was on Aozos.... :-( dangit..... but YOU ain't leaving dude.... even if it takes from me to stop by more often....
I'll hold myself from comments. I'll probably say something that isn't exactly the nicest thing in the world. But I'll say this retard, if you are tired of the anti Americanism, I'm tired of every other american calling me a hippie for not wanting war. You know retard, di you read the articles DU once posted about Iraq vs America history?
I know what you mean. I am not anti war and people therefore automatically assume that im a hawk. I get constant comments about how hardcore republicans dont approve of long hair and stuff like that. I know that protesting the war doesnt make you un-American. I would argue that it makes you American. The whole reason that we have a country is because of protest. To say that dissent against the government is un-American is ridiculous. I am sick of hearing pro war people saying that protesters are un-American. I'm sick of those same people supporting war because it is 'cool'. There are too many people running around blindly following Bush. Not every pro war person is this blind, but there are some. At the same time, I find it difficult to listen to those anti war people who protest without proposing something better that will acutally work. If I hear a convincing and feasible plan for other action, I will go out and join the other protesters. Taking life is always a tragedy; taking life when there is an alternative is worse. So to those against the war I ask you, what is a better plan that will solve the problem we face?
Stay here retard, you still entertain me. Well, actually your wife does, but if you leave, then so will she. Seriously, stay. I fully understand what you mean when you talk about sacrifices that were made in the past by armed forces. Half of our frigging culture is based off of it. Yes, I appreciate the sacrifices which were made, and it's all because I lived in the Middle East for a few years. I feel as strongly about that stuff as you, and I'm honestly thinking of joining the Army, because I want to protect Australia.
I want to apologize for "crazy liberals" I mean it in fun, and don't really want to offend anyone. You're entitled to your beliefs, and i respect that, even if they are, in my opinion, very very wrong. Except for that garbage about the US becoming a totalitarian state. That really is crazy-talk.
Awfully PC of you to say so.. Takes a lot more than that to offend me. I was just addressing the fact that I'm not so much of a non-sensical, radical, politically correct, screw-the-system-so-I-can-get-a-free-ride liberal as I may come across. Ditto to that. Is it? By the gods I hope so. There are some things one doesn't mind being proven wrong about. But as I've stated before, it is our duty as Americans to question anything the government does. Especially when they're doing it in our name. A touch more irony here. On that afformentioned liberal board. I'm not one of the populars there, in terms of my viewpoints. Many of the posters on that particular board dismiss my views as 'totalitarian conservative bs' Because I don't feel we should have mandatory meditation hours. Because I don't feel that thinking happy thoughts will cause the world's troubles to evaporate. Because I strongly support the 2nd Amendment. Because I do believe that sometimes war is neccessary. But it is a route that should only be taken with great care and assurance that all other routes are exhausted. I believe it was Tom Clancy who said, "No one wants peace more than the Warrior." And that is dead-on in my opinion. Thus far, I've seen little evidence that the war route is succinctly neccessary. Tho' now that we've determined that hussein has scuds that he'd said were destroyed, I've no doubt in my mind that he'd use them. I still, however, question the legitimacy of the administration's actions, and I still question the motive(s) behind it. Is it really about freedom, or is it about capitalist expansion? Will we end up with troops there for years and years to come, making it a Vietnam with less jungle and more sand? And with that scenario in mind, will it simply cause another, more devastating rash of terrorism?
Heh, if some Iraqi discussion are a reason for leaving, I could as well leave all the forums I'm on. Almost every online forum is discussing the war, and (almost) all have all kinds of different views. It might seem a little...wiseass, but if you don't like it because of the discussion, don't participate in them. I know I suck at discussions, and I always say things that people take completely the wrong way, so I'm staying out of them. It helps for the atmosphere. So just chill out. If there's shit in a few threads, doesn't mean the rest is also shite. And now there's me to cheer the place up!
Retard, stay please, you don't want to make Bubba cry now do you?. Wait a minute, Retard's wife is here as well?, when'd that happen?, how long have i been gone?.... as far as i know the only female members (currently) are Windmill's and Snowmane........ i'm confused.
I hope Retard doesn't leave. He was one of the people in this forum i was looking forward to see what he had to say
