I was inventorying my hard drive today, trying to figure out what was consuming so much space? 100GB of porn. Gigs. One Hundred of them. Sounds like it's time to start cleaning out the collection. Second biggest? Music. 90GB of that. Apple has made a fortune off me, I'm ashamed to say. So. What's the biggest space consumer on your systems? *One catch: This is my 'media' pc I'm referring to. My gaming rig has nothing but games on it.
I have my OS on a small SSD. Everything else gets dumped into the storage drive, where free space is nigh unlimited. Unfortunately, some programs in the world of windows just can't cope with the idea of being installed anywhere other than the C: drive, and they quietly deposit files there. When space runs out, I have to go on a witch hunt to find the offending files and relocate them. Zbrush, for instance, puts all autosaves and quicksaves in the Public Documents folder. This is untenable, as these files can easily soar into the gigabytes range, and I only keep about 5gb free on my C: drive. When I made an inquiry with the Zbrush support department, I was informed that it is unfortunately IMPOSSIBLE to change the quicksave directory, and that I should just disable the autosave function. WTF is this, 1995? EDIT: Also, <<2,000th post.
Well as JJ I got my OS on a small SSD. But then I have some HDDs where I store stuff. Got around 450GB of movies (legit, not porn) then I think I have around 120 GB music. After that I dont know. On my internal HDD i got about 700GB of games and programs, including the music and some recently downloaded files.
I have three hard drives, out of which one is partitioned into two. I also recently cleaned out my download folders, of which I have one on each hard drive. Size advertised: 2 TB Actual size: 1851 GB Music: 76.3 GB Games: 584.84 GB Downloads (movies, software, game ISOs): 503.8 GB Stuff not accounted for (small games outside their official folders, various installed software, system files, etc.): 362.36 GB Free space: 323.7 GB
About 300 GB in programs, 250 more in games, then PDF's and other books for 20 GB, I deleted most movies, so only 3 GB of them, 3 GB of pictures plus 1.5 of Morrowind screenshots (Morrowind folder weights around 9 GB alone.) 30 GB music and about 100 GB worth of misc downloads and documents. No porn whatsoever, that shit leaves you like DarkFool, don't ask how.
ca 170 GB occupied 11 GB pictures 49 GB games 22 GB saved patches&mods rest is The thick of it, music, religious propaganda and system files. As soon as I reach 500 GB I start deleting stuff. Don't really know why.
Indeed. Take a look: Spoiler Seriously though, the religious propaganda was simply information that I've been bombarded with ever since I left the church. Apparently I've been a member since birth (and even worse, paid fees since the age of 18) without ever knowing it. I saved them for amusement only to realise that they occupied a hell of a lot of space.
I'm still a member of the Church of Sweden. I was considering leaving a while ago, but since they're adapting to a more secular Sweden and changing their view on critical questions, such as homosexuality and women's right to be priests, I'm actually planning to stay as a member for some time. Change for within and all that jazz. Also, our church fills a role as a light weight psychologist, free of charge. I still haven't seen a good replacement for them, so I guess it's better to pay those extra percent in tax every year. At least until I get a real job, that is.
I'm a member of THe Sweish church. But since I'm a student they don't get any of my money, so I haven't bothered with leaving.
My total hard disk size is 74GB, and most of it is used by applications and games. I have about 5GB free right now. There's a bit of music, but it's all ancient MOD files that I collected years ago. I don't see much point in storing music and films myself these days since almost everything is available to stream online. And I'm certain that none of my disk space is taken up by religious propaganda. Wait... does Cthulhu porn count as religious propaganda?
