weight & measurement

I have to sent time download patcks and gameguides to the many games I have and play.
I got have week than 60 GBytes harddrive and upgrade my memory to 128 meg. I alway have than general interest in science and history. Especial in how we set up than weight and measurement units.
Than sample is our american dram use in the avoirdupois weight is base on it being equall to 27 11/32 grains of wheat. here is the whole systen
27 11/32 grains of wheat = 1 dram
16 drams = 1 ounce
16 ounces =1 pound
25 pounds = 1 quarter
4 quaters = 1 cwt
2000 pounds = 1 short ton
2240 pounds = 1 long ton
The Imperial pound of England is not the same as the American pound. England in it history since the 12 th century change they weight system than it values more than 5 times. Also it is hight unlike the people who make up the system cut than grain of wheat into 11/32 peice. They most like decide they want than pound = to 7000 grains of wheat. Than grain of wheat does not weight that muck than american ounce weight = 437.5 grains of wheat.
When I run than fanstay roleplaying game I
use my own weight sytem as follow.
24 grains of wheat = 1 pennyweight
20 pennyweights = 1 ounce
15 ounces = 1 pound (7200 grains of wheat}
the rest is the same as above.
Wizard of the Coast make than small error in
the Wheel of Time roleplaying game of saying than standard coins weight 1/3 of than ounce an the wheel of time pound have 10 ounce only than 50 standard coins weight 1 pound.

To many gamemaster who try to setup their own world and measurement system run into touble
because their donot know how our measurement system where start and setup. No two grain of wheat weight the same, but their vary less than any other standard. Plus wheat is found thought most of the world and is very light and tiny in size. One gram of the metric system {than very tiny weight} is about = to 16 grains of wheats.
Than other weight the talent was equell to the weight of 60 cubic inches of pure gold which was about 42 pounds. The Minas was base upon the weight of 1 cubic inch of pure gold.The greek and jew didnot use the above weight instead the talent was base upton one greek cubic foot of water about 60 pounds.
