what exactly does the weapon speen mean? and another strange thing: the is a quite regular sword that when i view its stats on the dead body its speed factor is 4 and when i take it the speed factor turns to 9 (which is worse if i understand).
The higher the speed the better. The reason the sword is has a speed of 4 while on a dead body, but increases to 9 when you equip it is because you have at least apprentice level melee. The bonus for apprenticeship is +5 to weapon speed. I don't know the exact conversion for weapon speed to APs. I think it's something like Speed/4=AP cost. Or speed/3. Something like that.
so the hier the weapon speed the better? that's odd in BG it is quite the opposite. but what exactly is it good for. the number of times that i can attack? if, for example i have, 2 times of attacking with weapon with speed factor 4 how many times will i have with weapon with speed factor 9?
You dex and skill level (apprentice, expert, master) also figure into how many times you can attack not just the weapon speed.
You're right, yatsek. That formula I posted is completely wrong. Now that I look at it, I'm not sure what I was thinking there. It's been a while since I've played the game, but I remember a weapon with a speed of 12 takes 3 Action Points. The amount of Action Points you get per turn-based round are determined by your dexterity. Like I said before, I don't remember the exact ratio of weapon speed to APs, but it's easy enough to just load up your game, equip a few weapons of differing speeds and then come up with the number. Suffice it to say, a high weapon speed is always better. For example, given the same damage stats, a sword that has a speed of 20 will always be better than a sword with a speed of 10.
