I didn't understand why he needed to clone himself to DP the chick.

That way it's not as awkward & uncomfortable when you inevitably end crossing swords.

The DP made it into the movie? That's marvelous!

Were there? or was there only one over and over?

I made a promise to myself that I'd read the comic before seeing the movie. I did so, and I can say that while the characters were true to themselves, I would've liked to see more of the book in the movie. I suppose that can be said of any film adaptation of a famous book, but this was slightly different in that there was no sense of the people who were in the middle of this whole struggle. It seemed to be all about the heroes.
I liked the situations presented in the comic of Bernard, the man at the news stand, as he tried to explain his point of view of the world at large with bombs at the ready. I liked the social tension between people as the comics progressed, and the character development of everyone in the book.
I wasn't particularly fond of the music chosen for the movie, and I agree that it was either a poor choice or, in some cases for me, painfully distracting.
I actually prefer the ending of the comic to the ending of the movie. They're both entirely sci-fi and over the top
(one involving a fake explosive alien and one involving the near god-like powers of a man who's lost so much stake in human normalcy that he deigns to let fabric touch his willy)
, but the book more easily ties in Bubastis with its story than the movie does. In the book, it's mentioned and explained by Ozymandias that Bubastis is his genetically modified mutant lynx. In the movie, it's pretty much *BAM*, giant fucking cat. What the hell is that supposed to do? The story's ingredients were presented without explanation. It's like eating what you think are normal brownies (because you just had some brownies that were made by the same person) until you take the first bite and find you were surprized with nuts. Perhaps some weed, too, but mostly nuts.
My point is, certain things were missing, like Hollis's unfortunate circumstances. Certain elements aren't present in the movie that are obviously in the book, and even with that as fact...I really liked the movie. Cinematography was great, effects were great, acting was great...very good stuff. I smiled walking out of the theater, and it kindof made me wonder how things might've turned out in the US had we won in Vietnam.

As a side note, don't fear the glowing blue penis. It's not like he's using it when you see it. Plus, there seemed to be more boob in the movie than penis. Either that, or it's how I interpreted the signals reaching my brain through my eyes in a slightly successful attempt to defend my rational thought against such a thing.

*blink blink* Dude. Now I really need to see this movie, if only so I can say I've seen a glowy blue penis.

I haven't seen it yet, but some friends have. According to them, blue penis abounds.

Yes. There was much glowing blue penis. There was so much glowing blue penis that it's amazing the movie got an R-rating. (Maybe the movie board were fans of the original?)

Its remarkable what the censor board has let past in recent years. If Watchmen'd tried for an R-rating 20 years ago, they all probably would have died of apoplexy.

I found the movie enjoyable, if a bit drenched in computer-effects. Only they changed a few bits they didn't need to, which in my opinion would have left the narrative stronger were they left intact.
