It's going to be my default response to my bosses nonsensical scheduling plans. The next time I get an email with the time slots that need filled, I'm wanting to send that video to her. I just hope her command of the English language is enough for her to see it as a joke.

Ah. No, English is my second language. I started to be taught English at the age of 8 but was a bad child and never took interest in my studies. Therefore I have had bad results up until "high school".

I can only speak for myself, but in my case school only took a complimentary part in teaching me English. Games, books and later on the Internet provided a much more interesting environment for learning than school ever did. It is therefore not surprising that my English improved so much as it did when I was sucked into the world of forums, if only because all those taunts and mockeries required a certain level of eloquence I knew I simply had to acquire.

Games and the Interwebz did (and still are doing) a lot for improving my English, but it wouldn't be as good as it is if not for the fact, that watching a helluva lot of English Cartoon Network turn my brain half-English much earlier, when I was but a kindergarten parasite. It has always been but grinding after that.

Odd that you would say that Muro. Cartoon Network coupled with Spongebob Squarepants seems to be turning the brains of American kids into mush.

I guess I was lucky. Back in my days CN represented quality. Hearing that Cartoon Network isn't 100% cartoon anymore, my guess is that it's but a matter of time before it'll be representing Hannah Montana instead. Or did it already happen? I'm afraid to ask.

As for Spongebob, I don't really have a stance. I didn't see a single episode of him, the rectangular Hitlerjugend irritates me by himself, but then again, his very existence initialised the creation of Spengbab, so he's not totally bad. Hell, if all of his episodes were like this, I would love him with all my hearth without a second though.

Modern CN is what's pulverizing the minds of today's children. Old school CN, like Muro says, was actually quality entertainment, and it wasn't just for kids. A lot of the cartoons that were aired on the network had jokes that adults would get, but were worded in ways that kids would get a laugh out of them (it was the same deal with old-school Nickelodeon), not to mention the "cartoon cartoon" show, which was like cel-shaded crack. Nowadays, all I can watch on Cartoon Network is Adult Swim and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.
Spongebob has a strange ability to pacify children and completely absorb their attention. My nephew, now 15 months old, will literally shush my sister if she talks during the show.
I think the message here is, cartoons should literally be for everyone. There should be specialized interest cartoons, sure, but there should be more cartoons that everyone will love.

We did not have Cartoon Network at home yet when I was young. In the place of CN I was watching the cartoons from Sky Channel. Some time later I could watch Adult Swim, Johnny Quest, etc.

I do really miss some of the old cartoons these days. You know: GI Joe, Transformers, Ghostbusters, The Real Ghostbusters, M.A.S.K, He-Man, Jay and the Wheel Warriors, Inspector Gadget, Battletech, Muppet Babies, Black Star, Dark Star, Dino Riders, etc.

The Rocko's Modern Life safe net surfing guide may need updating, the download section refers to a file being to big for a floppy disk.

Ah, Rocko's Modern Life. Fun for kids, even more fun for adults.

Oddly enough, the cartoon from my childhood I still adore with every fiber of my being is Rugrats. It's fun when you're a kid, but some of the jokes are a LOT funnier when you're all grown up.

One of the cartoons I could never stand was Ren & Stimpy! It was just too stupid and weird for me!

I never have liked Jem, Candy Candy, or Captain Yankee Doodle (I am not that sure if this is the right name.), Seaburd (?), Heidi, or even that cartoon with those stupid rich kids. That's because these are too girly, or just plain stupid.

I agree, I despised Ren & Stimpy as a child. It was just a string ov violent images sprawled across the screen with no interconnecting plot. Today, the cartoonist spends his days debasing Family Guy for being too easy to draw.

The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack is pure awesome.

Sadly SpongeBob was my sons third word. Then came Daddy.

I liked Jem when I was little. It was on right before Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles too.

Jem wasn't that bad minds you, but it just wasn't interesting enough.

Could someone help me with the name of that Japanese cartoon with a submarine that was on Sky Channel?
