Thanks! Yeah I wasn`t sure about the html, but I gave it a go.

I didn`t have time to rectify it since I had a class though!

Ahhh ... now you are learning the art of 'talking it up' before the results arrive. Good move.

Seriously, though, I've done one of those tests you talked about. When I first got a job, it was with BT. At that time (maybe still, for all I know) they used to insist on numeracy tests. I turned up and sat in a Hall with 50 other applicants.

Then they gave a little booklet and said "Turn to page one." To my immense relief, the page was filled with very basic addition questions. I felt brief very smug, until they added, "Do as many as you can in the next 60 seconds." At that point I started sitting a little taller ('cos of my filled pants).

All the pages were the same, basic arithmetic/geometry, questions. I'm a very slow worker, and thought I had done terribly. I didn't finish a single page.

All I can say is, the other applicants must have done a lot worse, 'cos I passed through to the interview stage. In the interview, they did the classic two-man, good guy/bad guy routine. One of the first nasty things the bad guy (who eventually became my direct superior) asked me was "Did you cheat on the test?"

[EDIT]I see Ioo finally sent you a pic of his mum. Or did you snap her in the afterglow of passion?

Er, how would you cheat on a test like that Fatman?

Personally, I find it very difficult to cheat. I find it very difficult to do a lot of things that many people consider okay, because I have fairly strong moral beliefs.

I never bother cheating either. I've never understood why people go through all the stress of devising some cunning plan, sweat it through, deal with whatever guilt they may incur. If I'm shit at something, I'd rather fail, shrug and say, "so what?" It's a lot easier.

BTW, I believe what they actually asked me was "DO you have any relatives in BT who may have access to the test papers?"

    Ok, Zen. Take two:

The lettering is a little different. More hard-edged than soft and rounded. For some reason, I couldn't get it to look the same, so I just scrapped it and tried something new.

That's almost exactly like the first section of the test that I took. Booklet 2 is what killed me, though. That's where they got into multiplying and dividing fractions. I thought to myself as I opened the booklet "Holy Shit! I haven't done these in 15 years! I don't remember how to do them!" 15-20 questions. 4 minutes on the egg timer. GO!

It didn't help that Jar confused me in IRC after I took the test. I told him that I cross multiplied the fractions in order to divide them, and that I hoped to God that was the right thing to do. Then he told not to worry, that was the right thing to do. No wait... That's wrong. Hold on... No, you were right... Wait, how do you do those again?

Thanks, Jar. No I know what a heart attack feels like.

No worries. I get the cold, sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach on a weekly basis. It's bad for the digestion system  (I think).

    Hehehe! Nice Milo!

BTW: Is there somewhere one can "upload" ones files, such as drawings, to be hosted for free?

I`m such a internet idiot you see! :p

Check out this comparison of free hosts

There are a million of these type of comparisons around, and most of them aren't worth the pixels they're displayed on, but I noticed this one gives some useful info, like:
    • Banners. Not important for images, but if you ever put a site up, it's very handy to know the hosts who won't banana you.
    • Upload. FTP is useful for sites, where you wanna put a load of pages up. Not so important if you're putting up images.
    • Space/bandwidth.

One thing you will want to check when you're looking at them is whether they permit using the site for file storage. Some hosts don't like it if you just stick images up there. Not surprisingly, this tends to be the ones who smack you with a massice banner, because just lining to images doesn't give them a chance to ask people to spank their monkey or buy a wood panneled floor.

Another great resources for free web hosting is FreeWebspace.net and the FreeWebspace.net Forum.

Just know going into it that the really good free hosts are disappearing or already gone. F2S was a good one that eventually went to paid hosting only. Barrysworld was (still is, I guess) another good one. I don't know if they're still accepting sign-ups for free accounts, but it's worth a shot. Using your account there as a file dump is technically against their AUP, but I've been doing it forever. All the sigs and images I do here are hosted on that account, and they haven't shut me down yet.

I think a better solution would be to buy some cheap hosting. Discount Hosting has a $10/year plan. 50 megs, 5 gigs of transfer, PHP, MySQL. No mail, no subdomains, no Perl/CGI. Hey, what do you expect for <$1/month? This is what I'm going with as soon as Barrysworld catches on and plonks my account. It's so cheap it's almost free, and I won't have to worry about my hosting crapping out on me every 5 minutes or "catching me" at violating the rules.

You might need to worry about 'em disappearing, Milho. Just 'cos they're charging, doesn't protect them form insolvency. If they go bankrupt, you'll be glad you backed up the stuff you hosted with them.

The Barry'sWorld file dumping policy is probably aimed at discouraging big time abuse, like running a website and having all your streaming vids hosted there, or putting all your html on a no banner site, and using a bannered host for images and such.

    Are you still here?

It's true what you're saying about paid hosting. They come and go also. Discount Hosting has been around for awhile now, though, and there haven't been many complaints about their service on the web hosting forums out there. So, it is a risk, but... what can you do? At the worst, it's only ten bucks.

Yes, Milo, I'm still here. But you should get another avatar all the same.
