Okay I was going to do a six month grave dig but instead I'll just add http://terra-arcanum.com/phpBB/viewtopi ... 86&start=0 The fact that modern dwarves are very conservative about actually using technology may also indicate a post-apocalyptic culture, rather than being evidence that they would never build such a high-tech civilisation. I.e., "keep our economic/technological base small and simple, or we'll be wiped off the map by a mad elf... again." Furthermore, the mountain clans may obsess about their beards, but so do hill-billies everywhere. My ancestors judged a man by the length and grooming of his moustache, a matter they took very seriously indeed, but such fashions have come and gone dozens of times in two millennia. So a beardless statue in Vendigroth does not preclude dwarven origins. So yeah. It's one thirty in the morning and I'm bored.
Silly theory is silly. Silly and easily disproven. Seriously ytzk, Vendigrothian dwarves? Tell me another.
After saying: I discovered Pelojian saying the same thing a few months after that thread. I considered grave digging but thought it would be a bit harsh bringing the theory back up again just to crap all over it so I let it be.
The dwarves don't overuse technology because of cultural beliefs. Letting a machine do the work for him is unthinkable to a dwarf, unless that task is something beneath him (like draining water and or sewage from the mines (as proven by Gilbert Bates)). Working hard and of your own power is important in dwarf society. Also, they might've gotten frightened by their own power after the destruction it caused during Loreks war.
Alright I want to back up ytzk a bit here. Allow me begin with some loud thinking session; Elves/Giants were created in magical storms; ogres grew in size (then shrank back to ogres) while elves were mutated into beings with magical aptitudes. I would like to think dwarves also mutated from humans who had very strong technological influence around them, which would be Vendigrothians. And the dialog from Kerrigan just states that dwarves are not Vendigrothians and accessed technology before dwarves. It does not conflict with dwarves being a mutated race from Vendigrothians. Lets look at the oldest and most technological dwarven clan Iron Clan. The sound record device, a chest left behind that can not be picklocked, special gate/locking systems seems to be good proof that they were once pretty advanced at technology. Also we see automadons as guards just like Vendigroth. Now lets back up the theory with a little visual from Iron Clan throne room lobby. There is a statue of a dwarf on the top of the gate; using my photoshop skills; I could improve the image to a level where we can perceive tht the figure has a bold head, some side-brows, no mustache or beard on chin. One could even argue that there are not even side brows there, just some sharp chin bones. This backs up ytzk's theory on beards, it is just a trend; it is that dwarves dont remember when it started.
I see both a moustache and a beard on that statue myself. That's actually Pelojian, though it's true that there is a resemblance.
Mutation based on technology fields would be indistinguishable from those 'naturally occurring'. By definition, technology is an expression of natural law. If such a thing is possible, it would seem to be the product of pure natural selection because of its lack of mystical vibrations. Except, of course, it would happen faster than is presumed by the author of that quote. Finally, the quote by that long dead seer (who, of course, is infallible) could be read to mean that the Vendigrothians had such tech long before the Dwarves [had evolved]. In conclusion, I'm just clutching at straws.
I wanted to hold out a bamboo for you, but Muro broke it mercilessly with his facts. Young people have no respect for the crap elderly make up! (hope you are elderly enough or this comment might be torn apart as well. my hair just began thinning recently, not sure if I can count myself in)
