Virgil's new calling...

Virgil as a caster really isn't working out that great in my current game. He tries (and fails) to heal the techies in our party until he collapses.

Fortunately followers proffessions can be changed at will in car arcanum.

What would be a fitting proffession choice for virgil that would make him fill the most useful role?

Is there a tech proffesion you can see him taking up? I wonder what followers on the "shopkeeper" proffession would contribute? Too bad I couldn't have followers step up and make purchases for me the way they sometimes would try to do for disarming traps or unlocking doors!

Maybe try changing his magick school. He's worthless as a healer later in the game anyways, and Dante seems more effective at it anyways. Or a trap dog, theres tons of traps in CA!

 

lol it hadn't even occured to me that the Dog proffesions could be applied to Virgil but sure enough it's in the barrel!

Virgil will make a fine Dog I hope. :lol:

 

Don't give Virgil any of the gunfighter cheats. They seem to cause a conflict with his AI.

 

I've always thought that Virgil should progress in accordance with his alignment.

Evil = Dark necromantic and thief (since he came from a life of crime)

Good = White necromantic and various support spells

It's on my to do list but it's much nearer the bottom than the top.

 

You know that if you don't use stereotypes, but you depict the struggling and frustration of a good character trying not to abuse dark necro spells or a bad character trying to uphold his dark image by not helping those who clearly need it, but only for his own selfish reasons you can create wonderful characters?

who would be a better character? virgil the dog? or the dog the dog? .. making him learn things like traps seems like a reasonable thing to do for a tech user which is the way i was going to go but at the start i only have 2follower slots (i might get more later)

hrmm i'm not sure spot is quite what i want i cant find spots level up tactics in the book but i assume it has like spot/disarm/lockpick/melee maybe?

----oh duh silly me...dialogue interface mhmmm sogg has huge str but..he's 3lvls behind me already does that mean he could never possibly catchup?

 

I've always been wanting to see what would happen if I gave Dog Virgil's job set.
He'd be one strange sight...

He can only catch up when you reach the highest level for your game. From that point on when you otherwise would level your party members will level up each of those times until the level up that gets them to max level as well.

The unmodified game has a max level of 50 and the most popular edit has a max level of 127.

So yeah once they are behind you in levels they stay that way until very very late in the game.

 

althea has an expert in spot traps to start

althea has an expert in spot traps to start and seems to be able to stop traps before SHE steps on them but with her trailing along behind me her sight is never nearly good enuff to keep ME from landing on a trap... so i wonder if the dog could really handle traps that well...

No spot won't help much over having althea in trap spotting. However like Dog, Spot is a "free" follower so there's no real reason not to pick him up unless you simply want to keep your party smaller.
