Hmm... somehow Virgil's dexterity dropped from 12 (its normal level) to 3 when I wasn't looking (it is also marked in red). I can't make it go away -- removing all inventory, resting, healing, doesn't help.

Can NPCs sustain permanent injuries? Is this recorded in the logbook? How can I diagnose & fix him?

    Thank!

Have you been wandering in Tarant's sewers, perhaps? There is a cursed sword there called the Blackstone blade, that can lower your DX permanently. NEVER let your followers equip any weapon that is not identified.

Yes (the sewers) and yes (found the sword). Sold it awhile ago, though. Sounds like a bug? Guess I need to revert, huh? Nuts! -- but thanks. Better now than the rest of the game.

No, it's not a bug. It really lowers your DX by 2 every time. Good luck playing!

No, it's not a bug. A character only has to wield it once to get his/her DX destroyed forever. Wether you've sold it or not has nothing to do with it - once worn, there's no turning back.

You don't need to revert, since you could complete the game just fine without Virgil - but if you still want him to be an effective piece of your party, then yes.

And remember - always have many different saves, just in case a thing like this should happen. It can save you from a lot of pain.

It's a bug. Either the dex drop isn't meant to be permanent, or it's not meant to happen every time you equip it, or something.... I forget the technical details, but it is a bug. I think. :)

alternatively you could download a savegame editor and use it to correct virgil's dex

Yeah, that would be a most viable option.

You can grab one from here.

Just scroll dowm the page and you'll see it. The page contains some other goodies you might be interested in as well. :)

Oh, and Canis, I believe the Blackstone Blade is supposed to incur a permanent DX drop. If anything, I think it's the repeated penalties that are bugged. :)

Asrudin explained it to me once but I've forgotten the details and I can't find the bloody thread anymore. I think it was in Sierra's general Arcanum forum, which deletes old threads to save space. :( Ah well.

About the editor. Won't Virgil's dex still be marked in red, indicating an internal flag which will always knock it down by nine? I don't think you can use the editor to overcome limits imposed by species, curses, background, and the like, which would mean that Virgil's dex could never go above, what, eleven? Maybe I'm way wrong on this one.
