I want to be that annoying dog from Fallout 2 that gives everyone the Jinxed trait and is hard as hell to kill. I mean, you throw a Panzer Jackhammer into burst mode and unload on the damn dog and still only 1 damage per round? C'mon!

There will be multiple "settings", or rather, arenas. Each new fight will have it's own thread and exciting arena. The setting will, mostly, be realistic-ish, with a few humoristic overkill details. I'll introduce every fight with a description of the surroundings, so you won't have to worry about that at all.

And to quickly answer Wobblers post; it's not your character that'll win this tournament for you. It's how well recieved your posts are. If you're the funnier/better/more awesome writer, then you'll end up as the advancing fighter.

I would like to join, I'm pretty free to post whenever...

    Tycho
He is the child of Apollo, a fact he is unaware of even now. Born to a human mother in Ancient Macedonia. He trained in archery as a boy, quickly surpassing his peers, and even his teachers. He found himself always to be quicker and stronger than those around him. To him growing up the greatest joys in life were the moment when the arrow flew from the bowstring to unerringly hit its mark, and the wind flying in his face during a chariot race. Upon reaching the age of 17 he joined Alexander the Great's army. He fought valiantly, but never showed much leadership potential. Often He would get distracted from the battle, simply for the thrill of the impossible shot. During the campaign through Greece he came across a bow made of a golden wood, with a quiver nearby. He found that the bow made his arrows fly farther, and strike with more deadly force. The quiver through seeming relatively unimpressive would constantly be full of arrows. Upon studying the bow more closely he found some words inscribed upon it, and venturing out of the camp after dark, he discovered that the bow had other showier properties, which he was afraid to use among his fellow soldiers. After Alexander's death, he retired home, got a wife, and started a family.
By the age of 30, he still looked 25. By 40, it was seeming a little strange, the world around him continued to move forward, but he never aged. Eventually his wife died from old age, he grew estranged from his grandchildren as they passed him in apparent age. By the time he buried his children, grief overwhelmed him, and he strove to disappear.
As time passed on he went through various stages of misery and decadence. Until after 1,200 years he determined that he should die. Unwilling to take his own life, he took up his bow and sought war where he could find it. He fought in every war he could find through the middle ages, often as an archer, but he quickly realized that to fulfill his death wish he would need to be a foot soldier. However, fate had something else in mind, for his wish was never granted. Eventually after World War II, he gave up his hope of finding death in war. He resumed his previous life of decadence and misery, even learning to drive a car. He found convertibles to invoke some of his lost joys experienced in the chariots of old. Now having heard about this tournament, he thinks that perhaps he might finally find his death here in single combat.
-He is capable of Olympian feats of strength and speed. He is experienced with all manner of weaponry, from ancient to modern. And he is capable of godly feats of accuracy. He has extensive knowledge of ancient medicine, and heals extremely quickly.
-He has a 1975 Corvette Convertible. The bow and quiver which he found during Alexander the Great's campaign. An automatic rifle. And a several centuries old longsword(well kept).
    Bow's powers:
-Can cause day to break at any time, can fire an arrow composed entirely of solar energy, has lethal range beyond that of any hand-held gun(not artillery).
-He has close-cropped blond hair. He's clean shaven and in a thousand years of warfare has managed no scars on his face. His skin is a nearly golden, and seems to almost glow. He wears an old Greek army uniform from World War II.
    EDIT: Changed name.

This is better than I originally hoped for. Seven fighters! With me, if I have to (get to :p) step in, we'll be eight! This is starting to look like an actual tournament!

    Here are some ideas:

    1. What about making NPC contestants, something between silly and deadly with who(m) we can have fun with?

    2. We could have two hosts as while, who can make comments about the fighting. (like Celeberity Death Match.)

    Example:

John: "Well Jim, the next contestants are Lucy Lustfull and Steve Tucker."
Jim: "Yes, Let's hope that the battle is fair....not."
Judge: "Okay, lusty Lucy, and Hilibily Steve...FIGHT!"

Steve Tucker hits Lucy in face and kick in stomage.

Jim: "I don't think that Lucy is not liking that."
John: "No, not at all, what is the girl doing now?"

Lucy Kicks Steven Tucker hard in the balls, and Steven falls down.

John: "....and there goes his balls, with her special attack of "The Nutscracker."
Jim: "Yes...John, I think that his nuts are cracked."
    Judge: "Lucy is the winner!"
John: "Now while they are looking for his balls, we go to the commercials."

I like the host idea, but no NPC contestants. There will be NPCs, but in the form of innocent, unsuspecting people going on about their own business while the fighters rip each other, and the NPCs, to shreds.

So: Feel free to add the comments of the hosts to your posts, for a little more flavour. I'll name the hosts and give them a little background and then post it here for you to use.

Since the details of my character might be a bit unclear, here's a summary:

    - Va'Ul is an ancient artifact created to cause great, desolating wars. It was meant to be cast between two warring civilizations, and under the pretext of aiding either one, decimate both, to bring ultimate peace to their lands.
    - It can change forms, but it's not a shape-shifter and cannot morph at will. Changing into something completely different is generally out of the question during the VFX.
    - It needs a master to function. It corrupts its masters to eventually fulfill its own ambitions, but in the end its actions must concur with the master's will. Without a master it can try to convince someone to fill that position. At this point its master is a slightly mummified zombie, mostly depraved of his own will, which is why the character is Va'Ul itself.

    Combat skills:
    - Va'Ul is a war-bringer, not a war-machine. Its presence and actions drive populations toward war - its engaging in direct battle was meant to be a symbolic act to inspire further conflict, not direct means toward winning it.
    - It is skilled with about any weapon, from broadswords through machine guns to operating spaceship plasma cannons - however its skills are not on any incredible levels. Unless its master is very skilled with a particular weapon, Va'Ul would likely be the inferior combatant in a fight with a true expert. Of course it would still likely have the upper hand, due to its strength and near immunity to normal weapons.
    - It gives its wielder unnatural strength, speed and perception, and provides its master with a protective field of sorts. Not counting the armor that it is now, the field would be able to stop a small caliber bullet and arrows shot from anything less then a longbow. The field can also slow the impacts of most melee weapons (smaller then 2h-swords and sledgehammers) to the point of no longer being lethal.

    Gear:
    - The armor Va'Ul is now appears to be made from some highly durable steel composite. It is hard and thick enough to chip most light melee weapons, as well as deflect light projectiles without taking a scratch. Being the 'body' of the artifact, it can heal over time, closing minor cracks and scratches within minutes.
    - The sword is a minor artifact itself, enchanted with spell-braking magic. It can deflect magic projectiles, absorb weaker magic spells and cut 'exits' out of illusionary planes. The sword can permanently slay undead and do serious harm to non-material beings. It looks rather flimsy as a weapon, having a long (5ft), thin blade, however it doesn't break easily. It has a fairly minimal guard, a perfectly straight blade with a sharp tip and no apparent decorations.
    - The axe and the chain are slightly magical - the chain automatically winds/unwinds around the wielder's arm when the weapon is thrown and pulled back. The chain is quite thick but acts as if it was a lot lighter then it appears. It provides slight protection to the forearm when wound around the armor. The axe is a short, double bladed weapon, sporting an additional spike on the tip and slight runic inscriptions on the handle.
    - The bow is quite unexceptional compared to the rest of the gear, save for the fact it launches the arrows with the strength of a small ballista. It requires a lot of strength to operate and isn't very accurate.

    Magic:
    - Va'Ul can summon visions of past conflicts, and allowed enough concentration, materialize parts of them. Speeding chariots, falling bombs, raining arrows and really pissed berserkers, Va'Ul has seen them all. Being weakened as it is however, Va'Ul cannot just summon a planetoid space colony in the near orbit and have it fire the mass-drivers at the opponent.

    Cool.

    Now, for the two hosts:

Our first host is Reverend "Dropkick" McMurphy, the (in)famous superstar priest and wrestler. "Dropkick" has seen most of what this world has to offer when it comes to fighting, claims having invented the dropkick, and was so a must-have to the VFX directors. He is also a man of the faith, and gives sermon every day at his church in Alabama. While fighting or otherwise entertaining his audience, "Dropkick" has a habit to quote the holy scripture to underscore points, or simply to say things that sound, in his ears, awesome.

Our second host is the busty Russian blonde Natacha Korinivskaja, recent winner of the Sexiest Women Ever competition, who got the job of hosting the show purely because of her looks. Apart for being famous for her divine body, Natacha is widely known for her passion for designer handbags, small dogs (usually kept in the bags), and her stunning stupidity.

Zeke Musashi, the resident war veteran and martial arts expert, is not a host, but the honorary guest of the VFX studio. Every now and then, Zeke likes to add in some details to the fights based on his experience in the US army, or his travels in the far eastern lands while searching for knowledge of the martial arts.

    NOW, LISTEN UP!

As soon as I've created my fighter, I'm going to start the tournament. I'll pick the first two fighters this afternoon, and PM them about the date of the fight (as well as asking them about it here, of course). The first VFX fight will probably be held in one to two weeks time. It's on, folks!

    DOUBLEPOST, AAARGH

    Here's my character:

    Penny Adams

Penny Adams was born in the slum of one of the bigger cities of the world. The only two usefull things she learned from her childhood years as a normal civilian was a) rollerskating and b) swinging a bat. She quickly grew impatient with normal city life, and sought a way to make her everyday life more unique. One of these ways was looking for inspiration in various cartoons, and one day during her thirteenth year of life a thought struck her as she was reading a batman comic book. “What if I became a superhero?”. Yeah, what if? fate answered her, and she set out to find out. Armed with a pair of rollerskates, a baseball bat and a bag on her head (with holes for her eyes), Penny set out to fight crime and injustice wherever she found it. Unfortunetly for her (but not totally unfortunate, as we shall see), her plan backfired on her; oftenly, after having beaten the supposed mugger into a bloody pulp with her bat, the old lady (or otherwise innocent person) would mistake her for an even more dangeous criminal and run for their lives, leaving their wallet and watch behind without as much as a glance over their shoulder. While this did indeed more or less crush her dreams of uniqueness through superherohood, it did also suply her with a boatload of money (told you!). Money that would prove useful in the next grand episode of her life.

During her time as a failed superhero, Penny managed to draw a lot of attention to herself. Apart from gaining the nickname “Bat Girl”, which mysteriously enough made people think of her as a busty woman dressed in a spandex overall rather than a girl with a bat, she drew the watchful eyes of the Justice League; the confederation of superheroes worldwide. After a few mistakes (oftenly involving the arrest of innocent bondage-clad women) the league caught her and imprisoned her, their only loss being The Fantastic Eggman (“Yolk every-fucking-where” – quote from the initial police report). Penny’s time in prison would not last long, though, as she had drawn the attention of another, less superheroic individual. Indeed, Dr. Destruction was everything but a hero. Apart from being a madman and an evil genious, he was listed as the number one supervillain of the year by Marvel, and several other companies with knowledge on the matter. Destruction saved Penny “Bat Girl” Adams from prison, and in return she signed up on his payroll (though most probably only to be able to get back at the League). She quickly established herself as the doctors number one sidekick, and was able to get her hands on some sweet gear from his secret lab as well as getting to wack the heads of the superheroes who tried to thwart her employers plans..

But all things that has a beginning must also have an end, Neo (as the Oracle would’ve said), and Dr. Destruction was in the end undone and imprisoned by the League. Penny managed to slip away only because of the money she’d “earned” in her youth (she had to find out the hard way that the currency she’d been payed in by Dr. Destruction, the kind of currency with his name and picture on it, didn’t work in the real world), which she payed to Pablo, a mexican fisher who lived by the mouth of the cave which was the back-door of Destructions secret HQ. Where she celebrated her eighteenth birthday, noone knows, but it must’ve been somewhere secret considering her status as a world-famous supervillain.

That birthday was a year ago.

When Penny got word of the VFX tournament, she lived in Texas, working as a rollerskating waitress on a hamburger restaurant. As soon she’d finished reading the article, she went to her boss’s office, quite her job, grabbed the money (after having whacked his head with a bat and searched the room for it), and set of towards the VFX studio, hoping to get there in time to join up. This was how she was going to make her life unique (no, she wasn’t satisfied yet): She was going to become the most awesome fighter in the world.

Penny is a short, thin, western (as in not asian or african or... you get it) girl of nineteen years of age. She’s blonde, not naturally though, and her eyes are blue. Her lightly tanned skin is tattooed on her right shoulder; a classic anarch encircled “A”. In combat, she was previously almost always dressed in her black and green bulletproof leather overall (she did get one of those, after all), her jet-powered roller skates, and a pair of designed sunglasses. Since she became poor, though, she had to sell those nice treats to be able to stay alive and afloat. The only thing she kept was her weapon; an adamant baseball bat, her name imbued on it in a stylish logo. Since she hasn’t got her old gear left, she fight’s dressed in light clothing, with cheap plastic knee- and elbowpads as her only protection. She also brought her roller skates from the hamburger restaurant in Texas, which she plans to use in the tournament.

I'm interested in this...it seems fun.

    Alright, my character;

    Darius
    Male
    900 lbs
Genetically and cybernetically augmented silverback gorilla

Darius lived a tumultuous 18 years in the lab of an ostracized mad genius. Taken from his mother at an early age, he was started on gene therapy to increase his physical strength, stamina, and his mental prowess. He's capable of rudimentary speech, has mastered American Sign Language thanks to his modifications, and he's also strong enough to tear the engine block out of an M1 Abrams tank. He's been gifted with osmium/steel alloy skeletal reinforcements, and the latest of the mad scientist's work has given him extraordinarily dangerous psychic powers.
Thinking that he had created the ultimate bodyguard, the scientist began "training" Darius in Okinawan Karate and improvised weaponry via a chip in the base of his skull.
He also began tutoring the ape in the use of his new found powers. Unfortunately, Darius held a grudge against the doctor for not letting him live a peaceful life with his own kind, and upon mastering his mental powers, looked the doctor in the eyes and blew the man's brain out of the back of his skull.
He knew he'd never be accepted by other gorillas in the shape he was in, and he has a severe racial prejudice towards humans. Darius decided to join the tournament out of a desire to earn respect (or fear), or die trying.
Darius is a dangerous combatant in any way you look at it. He's immensely strong, agile, has very large teeth, and launches bursts of psychokinetic energy during times of great stress. On top of that, his mastery of the most brutal form of karate plus weapon improvisation could spell trouble for quite a few people.
He prefers terrain with large trees. He can easily uproot them and have a gargantuan war club at his disposal.

Ok. With an eighth fighter, my character is no longer needed. However, I'll keep it in this thread as a backup - in case of walkover/dropout.

If you sneak one in, we'll be nine. Then, I'll be *forced* to enter again. But, this leaves us with five fighters for the semi-final. Maybe we'll have to bend the rules a little, and have ourselves a fight with three participants in it... We should vote about this.

Are you people ok with a fight containing three fighters in the semi-final? Post a yes or no. Majority rules.

Do you want more info on my character sent via PM, or was my post in the thread sufficient?
