Sometimes beginning during, but always after leaving the ruins, doing an action in combat or initiating conversation with someone causes the game to crash to desktop immediately. Everything is fine before I enter, but something about the ruins messes something up from then on. I've tried going through the ruins alone (with and without invisibility) and with different numbers/combinations of followers, but the game is always rendered unplayable like that after exiting with the device. I also tried leaving the ruins and going straight to the place to be 'banished', but as soon as I click the first dialogue option...the game crashes (just as it does if I were to talk to Guy in the Inn or give the werewolf cure for that guy's daughter). So, I was wanting to know... Is there a 'fix' for this? Or is there a way I can simply give the device to myself through a command and set the quest as completed? Please, I want to finish this game, as it's my very first time playing Arcanum and I'm so close to the end. :-(
If no one on the forums will know a way to help you, kill the elf that wanted you to find the device in the first place. The last thing he'll do before death is banish you and your followers to the Void. The murder won't be followed by any major consequences and you'll find a plot replacement for the Device in the Void if you'll look carefully enough.
XP Pro SP3, with the latest official patch version on the game disc and the un-official patch from this site. No mods or anything beyond that. @Muro Lightning: Interesting...could you give me another hint, or is it reasonably found? It's lucky that I save a lot and just so happen to have one just as I'm about to talk with him. Edit: Oh, guess I don't have to reload that other save, I can just go kill the old bugger on my latest.. I'd like to avoid that, as that wildly deviates from the character I have, but I'll do it if needed to finish.
You can kill him before or after the conversation, whatever strikes your fancy. As for the hint, keeping your eyes open and exploring the whole place should be enough. When you find something that is more powerful in its category than anything you've ever encountered prior to being banished while being neither magical nor technical (I myself always considered it divine), it will probably be the thing you're searching for.
Ok, thanks for that, mate. I'll check back on this topic a bit later, and if nobody else has anything, he'll be as good as dead shortly thereafter. 0
please look carefully in the many islands of the void as one island containes a side staircase, you never know what you find inside . note : the staircase that im talking about is definatley not the one that leads to arronax.
