Anyone else looking forward to this? I'm definitely going to buy it.

It's scheduled for summer 2002. That's about now or soon, so get your plasma protection pants on. Check out the UT2k3 site for more info.

There are a lot of maps being made in advance for this little baby. Anyone fancy getting an Arcanum-related map together? I was thinking maybe Tarant Sewers or the Dernholm Maze or something along those lines.

Personally the only FPP I'm really looking forward to is Doom3. Better even I'd like to play next edition of Aliens vs Predator or System Shock using Doom3 engine - scary.

I loved the unreal tournament game, this one looks like it will be nice, so there is map making in it? Map making on a fps is everyone dream, it would be so nice making maps of your own, as long as you do not put too much short cuts to your special sniper area =)

    No.

Quake 3 is for people who can rail a person on the far end of the level while airborne without using the zoom function.

Quake 3 is for people with reflexes and pure skill.

Oy! I was talking about UT2k3. Be off with you if you're not going to play it.

Dontcha just hate it when Quakers turn up uninvited and preach about their outdated beliefs?

Sheriff will you make a battle donkey bot for UT2003? He could bite, kick and fart.

Kozmo, do you play Q III? If so, we could play a couple of 1v1...

A Battle Donkey skin would be a nice idea. Kinda lika War Cow that speaks. If only I wasn't so poo with graphics.

There hasn't been a great response so far in this thread, but if enough people are interested, I'll set us up a server, maybe, and put our own skins and maps on it.

I've been thinking about the map thing (since this bunch of peace-loving Quakers aren't helping any) and I think maybe K'na Tha would make a good map. It's got all the teleports and some fairly cool largish rooms for battling in.

I would play Sheriff, but in order to do that, I need the game. Which I don't have and don't plan on getting. I tried the demo and to me, there is no comparison between quake and UT. I don't think UT even has a rail type weapon.

Rail? Fucking snipers! Cowards! Fight with me in close combat and I'll fill your ass with steel using my shotgun.

Best MPFPS is Counter-Strike. You need skill, reflexes, TEAMWORK. (I hate AWP and camping).

    Mmmmm.. camping....

Seriously though, sniping is annoying, but an EXTREMELY useful ability, especially when in a team - one person sniping, with two other guarding.

Yep, I play Q3, although I'm not really that good at it. (I just beat Xaero on "Hurt Me Plenty" today...)

Also, taking into consideration that I don't have an internet connection on my own computer yet, It would be kinda hard to play against you...

Sheriff --> I love the Unreal games, but not quite as much as I like the Quake games. I own Unreal and Unreal Tournament. I love playing them, and I will begin playing them again as soon as I can make them work under Linux...

I am also very much looking forward to UT2003, unless of course it doesn't have OpenGL support.

I beat every bot on nightmare, including xaero. But not on his map. Tourney4. I'm not so hot on DM17 jumpy kinda maps yet. I play on rail only on those. Besides that, internet play is VERY different from lan. Max is ping 50. After that, strange things start to happen. That's not including the slew of god damn cheaters that play.

Isn't it rather strange to have an internet server that supports cheats?!?!?!

Jinxed, I don't even know if 2k3 is out yet. I certainly don't have it. I'll be getting it, though. I don't know what you mean by rail weapon, but if it is what I understand by the term then UT has something of the sort (the minigun).

Sniping is done with the Sniper Rifle, which is probably the best all-around (non-mod) weapon in the game, even for non-sniping fire, if you're any good with it. These days, I only play on instagib or sniper servers.

Even if you've played UT, giving UT2k3 is going to be worthwhile. It'll probably be the most played FPS for a while. We all know what a difference that makes - maps, skins, servers and quality players are all much easier to find.

I hate cheaters. As with all kinds of hackers, they spoil the game for everyone (including themselves, though they may not have the brains to realise it) whilst simultaneously failing to achieve a damn thing. They must realise by now that any decent player can spot a bot straight away, so it's not like their unbelievably high scores are getting them any respect. They don't even get any respect from other hackers, since everyone knows all the hacks are a set of instructions that a 5 yr old could follow. One of the great things about a new release is that the bots will all disappear for a short while.

The first few weeks of play on the new UT is going to be paradise: no aimbots/hacks, everyone new to all the maps, and a huge influx of players.

There are many other cheats besides aimbots. I'm talking about radars, see through walls or enemy health status. There is a lot of this stuff and many people use them. Powerup reminders, pure server hacks... The list goes on.
"Rail", I'm surprised you compare it to a minigun. Rail is a propelled projectile that burns no fuel. It's a sniper weapon. :)
I am part of a Quake III clan, I play a lot. That game really takes up tons of my time.
Another thing, if a cheater knows how to operate an aimbot, it's almost impossible to spot it. I read a lot about stuff like this and I know for certain that people can be REALLY good at cheating.
Which brings me to the "PAS" sig, because their type of ignorence makes me want to choke them to death with my bare hands.

What really irks me about the gaming industry is that releases are always quoted for Northern Hemisphere seasons - why don't they just use months for fuck's sake (didn't want to use Christ, Pete or crying out loud)? Much simpler, and eliminates confusion.

I'm going to have to say no. While I can play FPS's, and do well in them, I simply don't have the connection speed to play - pings of 250 vs pings of <50 are not good playing odds for me.
