What types of characters have you played? Because I'm on a restarting craze and just want to get some ideas. I have a Guntotter, but he has actually gone and gotten himself an 100 Alignment (good). Which is a bit ironic considering that his background is Bandit. And my other character, Sargasson, is a Fighter/Mage type with a -100 Alignment... I'm thinking of a Bounty Hunter. Does anything for money, and is a Guntotter (I love guns!).
Well, for guns the best are humans and dwarves. Mostly a dwarf, because you can also get the Iron Clan Armor to help you... gunners aren't very strong for what I know. What about a dwarf with the Bandit background... if there exists such a thing? :???:
Nope, there isn't a bandit background for dwarves. Use miracle operation (tip: spend 1 point on throwing and buy a boomerang during character creation to get out of the Crash site killing all the wolves outside. I made it quite easily despite low strength and constitution, and was level 6 when I first reached Shrouded Hills. It won't be a waste of a CP if you use molotovs or grenades as a secondary weapon). Personally, I begin to think that the best race for gunslingers would be halflings. Speed is everything...
speed is not everything. i have a human raised by monks gunfighter that is owning everything in sight. he doesnt rely on speed because he fights with the awesome tesla gun and is training to become a prowling master so that his enemies wont know where he is. he remains unencumbered and still manages to carry his tesla gun, looking glass rifle, healing jacket, chapeau of magnetic inversion, ammo, and charges. he still has followers as the moment; they will go away once he gets master prowling when he will get sebastian to join him.
In "raised by monks" you gain +1PE for money, I was using this background at first. But in miracle operation you gain at least 3 points at the cost of constitution that the gunslinger doesn't need too much, and you start off with PE 13 and IN 11. I haven't found a better gunslinger background yet. For archers its different because archers are better as mages (Ellumun's bow is magic, and it more or less equals to a mechanized gun for archers), so I'll have to think what background to use.
mage archers i think would do best with nature and some others. maybe some elemental spells or temporal...
My best gunslingers; Halfling Raised by Orcs. 1/2 Orc female, Miracle Operation. Dwarf, Mad Doctor. The speed of Elemun's bow is inherent in its nature, not part of its magic. So are its extra hits against animals. (It is a varaint of the Elven Hunter's Bow.) A tech archer I have uses it as a primary weapon. As the bow uses one arrow to hit twice, & the MG uses 6 bullets to hit once, they are not = except in speed. For a tech archer, try the Halfling, Raisrd By Orcs. For an archer mage, look at the Elves & 1/2 Elves, look for +s in DX or PE without a loss in ST. Consider the Elf, Troll Offspring, or Beat with an Ugly Stick. 1/2 Elf, Mad Doctor works, but steal the Ring of Virility. Learn Entangle or Stun.
Oh so Ellemun's bow keeps all its stats for a tech as well? That's excellent! When I said "more or less equals to a mechanized gun" I meant speed and average damage. If it works for tech, the +50 to critical for animals and using much less ammo makes it superior to the mechanized gun I guess. By the way how does using two arrows a shot works (expert archery I mean)? Double damage each shot or two shots on one click?
Two shots with one click & one arrow. I have missed the primary target in a crowd & watched two other targets take one arrow each. & I only used one!
Actually that's a drawback of the bows, you can hit a wrong target, which never happened to me with guns (except for a blade launcher which basically shoots arrows). Not too good when you have a big bunch of followers
I hit Magnus twice with a blade launcher in turn-based combat mood. You see, my followers all rush forward and stand like a bloody living shield, and I have to run around them to get a clear shot. I really should get rid of most melee fighters and make a ranged attacking team only...
fast turn based combat works for my gun fighter. most times, i initiate combat mode before all my followers rush forward so i only have to move one click. one time i didnt do this and dog died from my tesla gun shot, not a pretty site when i ressurrected him...
thats why i went for the raised by monks background-it didnt have as many benefits, but it didnt hurt me at all. if you do play a miracle operation then use TBC
Two Charged Rings, Trapmakers Specs, & Janya's drugs = + 8 DX, & + 4 PE. I have a 1/2 Ogre Miracle Operation who gets off 2 shots a round with the Tesla Gun, & he hasn't gotten the specs yet. his DX is 6 without help.
It doesn't for me. Strangely enough, my dwarf with miracle operation has dexterity of 20 with charged rings and Jayna's elixir. But I wonder how high I can get my perception this time...
