Don't be semi-sad about that sort of thing. That's pretty normal. My paps took me to a titty bar for my 21st birthday, only to find out he was a few wee years late, and he'd mixed up my birthday with my brothers.

When I was looking into renting a car, the guy told me that it was actually the store's insurance company that had the biggest impact on the age they allowed.

We're not the #1 pedophile heaven though. I've heard that the Japanese only have to be 26 to fuck with "women" half their age. Yet another area where the people of the divine wind are just plain fucking wrong.

In other areas, it's normal that you marry with "women" half their age. Now the only problem is that, you still have to wait with fucking untill she's an adult.

Problem with that is that what people "do" is generally quite different from what they "have to do".

Insuring a rental car through the rental agency is the biggest fucking rip-off known to man. Just make sure your own car insurance policy covers rentals and you will save hundreds any time you rent a car. My last conversation with a Hertz agent went something like this:

Hertz: "Do you want the full coverage, or would you prefer the medium coverage insurance?"

    JJ: "No thanks."

Hertz: "Ummm... so... you want the minimum coverage insurance then."

    JJ: "Nope. No insurance, thanks."

Hertz: "But if the car is damaged, you'll have to pay for it. Do you really want to take that risk?"

JJ: "It's cool, I'm with USAA."

Hertz: "Oh. Ok, well you'll still want the time-loss coverage in case the car has to have repairs, so you won't have to pay for the time it's in the shop."

JJ: "I said I'm with USAA."

Hertz: "But you'll at least want..."

JJ: "NO. I said NO insurance."

    Hertz: "*sigh* Sign here."

They try pretty hard to bullshit people into buying their insurance, because on a week-long rental, full coverage jacks the price up to almost 2x what you pay without it.

my dad got the full rental insurance the last time we rented a car. He intentionally scraped the paint, and dinged it for fun. :)

I have never rented a car in my whole life, and I'd very much prefer that it stayed that way.

... unless, of course, I could get away with parking it in a swimming pool like Innes Ireland did.

Why don't they just require insurance and only tell you in the fine print?

No, it's completely illegal. They can't sell half of a package deal like that, especially if it's in a binding contract.
And it's stupid. If a person got pulled over in a rental car and was required to show proof of insurance, the rental company would take the fall since the insurance is part of the sale.
