Today

Hmmm... Today is 19th... woke up at 11 again slept on another couch till 12... its 1 pm now, I ate something and went to my comp to discover that my mem tst is going on for 9:30 and isn't anywhere close to ending...so i screwed it. :smile:

Looking at the commercial at the top of the page is really scarin me...that scary ugly woman who says she lost 25 pounds in 8 weeks...that 25lbs is flasing so bad..and that face is so damn ugly...i..cant...look...any...more...submit

 

Dragged myself out of bed, ate breakfast, got dressed, caught the bus, went to another day of hell, and got home and got on here to unwind after a long day of seventh grade.

Anyway, despite being in the "drafting and design" department, the actual job isn't very creative at all. It mostly has to do with the upkeep of maps and records.

What kind of test is it? Numeracy or something? Or is it more to do with the actual job?

BTW, I love the way you took my sig image, already named a perfectly serviceable "sherrifsig" and renamed it "fatman_sig." You just hatta do it, didn't ya?

The test has almost nothing to do with the actual job, as far as I can tell. It's basic arithmetic and simple spatial recognition type o' shiot.

I took a look at the "test preperation guideâ„¢" and if that's what the true test is like, then it's laughably easy. I'll try to give a rough approximation:

You've obviously not taken enough exams, my boy. The first rule is NEVER play up the easiness of the test before you take it. Experienced exammers always suck their teeth and make tutting noises and say something like "It'll be tough, but I reckon with luck and hard work I could scrape it."

Similarly, only exammer rookies punch the air on the way out and say "Yeah! I maxxed it for sure," or some other fate-tempting pronouncement of doom. The proper behaviour is to adopt an attitude of thuoghtful introspection and, when pressed, admit that it could go either way, but at least you have a chance.

This will guarantee maximum impact for your results when you receive them. If you scrape a pass, you can say "Yep, thought so," and doing better will result in people saying things like "Looks like all that hard work paid off."

 

What Fatman says is true: If you don't expect too much out of a given exam, then you can't be disappointed. As long as you study hard, and go in knowing your shit, you shouldn't have any problems though.

Sometimes, though, you do know it when you've nailed an exam...and sometimes, you just wish for that extra 1 or 2 percent which would push your GPA up by half a point (Dammit, why didn't I get those 2 extra percentages???).

I like the 'modifications' you made to the image Milo...still, subliminal advertising works best when you flash it once or twice really quickly. Like Coke used to do in the cinemas - they flashed Coke a couple of times really quickly before the movie, then when they walked out, they'd see a Coke machine and go "Wow! Gonna get me a coke!". Of course, it's now illegal to do that...

 

Normally, I'd agree with you two regarding exams and not taking them lightly. Trust me on this one, though. If I don't pass this test, then I'm going straight to the doctor's office to get my chromosome count checked.

Regarding the sig, I tried to do a quick blip originally, but it didn't work out too well. In order to animate it, I had to change it to a .gif, and then to keep the filesize down, I had to limit the colors. I got everything looking nice, except for that yellow burst in the middle. With only 64 colors, it looked all dithered to hell.

Regarding the speed of the blip, that's it. That's as good as it gets. I set the animation to zero delay, so it ain't going to get any faster than that. Besides, if I could make it so fast that you couldn't see it, what would be the point in putting one in at all? It might actually work subliminally, but the joke would be lost.
