Well I don't know what counts as a big mod but mine currently has 31 quests and 293 scripts.
It's about a quarter done but I might release an unfinished version (less spare time than I used to have).

We need to rope in some French modder to translate them for us. Where did Lord Halifax go?

I think he pops in every now and then.

Good to hear someone is working on an English mod!

Yes, I know that this isn's an easy task, so how did you manage to make 31 new quests? How much time have you spent on making it?

I've been working on it since I joined these forums about a year ago. Progress was very slow at first because I had to learn every little step. Scripting involved a lot of trial and error. Now I have a good grasp of what the engine can and can't do, it's only the dialogue that takes long. As for the time I have spent on it...Hmmm, basically every hour I have spent watching TV over the past year I was modding at the same time so perhaps 3 x 7 x 48 = 1008 hours. Most of these quests are quite involved with multiple steps and people needed to complete them. I'm going to add a bunch of kill monster X and collect package Y in order to fill out the mod so the number of quests should shoot up.

As for a petition, unless you can get a few million names then a publisher isn't going to care. I suppose it's possible that Tim Cain himself might care about a small petition but that won't provide the money for him to make the game.

Where do you get your patience from? I know very little of making a mod and scripting so I don't know if that is a lot of time for such a quest, but how come you have the will to do it, is it sth like playing the game and creating things on the move, or is it just plain programming?

Yes you can do no good with a petition, there are so few of us here, ond I don't think you would get many sigs even if you poste it directly on the web

It isn't plain programming as in sitting typing lines of complicated code. Sock Monkey (the script maker provided with arcanum) scripts are fairly simple. They are rarely more than 20 lines long. However it can take hours to work the bugs out of a script which appears simple but for some reason doesn't work.
Building maps is quick and easy, just click and drop.
Typing thousands of lines of dialogue is the time consuming part.

As for where I get my patience, I like the creative process. I'm pretty bored with playing games. I've hardly played a computer game in the last 2 years. Whereas creating something feels much more rewarding, even if I'm the only one who plays it.

I'd really like to learn how to make a mod or sth, but now I really haven't the time.
But can you tell me about the basic rules and things I need to know before I get into programming?

What is the strongest drink you ever tasted?

I don't know ':eek:uch:', but I can tell you the worst: olive oil, beer, orange juice, tea, coffee (5 spoons), salt, sugar, milk, Adrenaline Rush, Pepsi, vine. All was in equal proportions. I drank it on tourist base. 4:00, I and my best friend heard Deicede, Cannibal Corpse. You can expect we didn't fear it would be terrible. After we both drank a half of cup, we felt something ':KO:'. After a few minutes ...''

Download AMTUT. It's what every beginner needs. After that, progress to WorldEd Manual. Spending 2 hours reading these documents saves you 2 weeks trying to figure things out.

Absinthe but the only 'taste' it has is pain.

Thanks, when I'll have the time I'll get to it.
Then I hope my 4 year Arcanum playing will be enough to make a decent quest.

What is the quest you made that are most proud of?

A long quest which I still haven't finished. I'm not going to give away the details but it involves a difficult choice the player must make. A choice that may come back to haunt them.

    Oh.
Stringy: what made me try it? Atmosphere (Death Metal, touristic base, 4:00 a.m. and that fact that we both have not slept 26 hours) and foolish idea of my classmate, with whom I drank it.
