I'm hearing all this anti-downloading attitude from the forum, and I have to ask the collective a question on the subject. In the specific case of Arcanum, why is this not a dead horse? Troika's gone.
Troika is gone specifically because of downloading. Arcanum was cracked even before the official release (for reasons unknown Sierra managed to leak the entire game) and once their first project netted them no money there was no way Troika could recover, they limped on for a little longer from there but were always financially crippled. Continuing to download the Troika games is to continue the very behaviour that ended up denying the world an Arcanum 2 not to menion that its illegal.
Ah. I rather despise the downloading of active games, yes. (I just don't see the reason for mass rage from the forums to continue now that Troika's out of business.)
Sierra is still selling copies of Arcanum, so its still an active game. Even though Troika is gone they only developed the game its publisher still exists (well sort of Sierra is part of a much bigger conglomerate now but ts still there).
