If the muscle tissue was a vital organ then it's an abomination to eat. I therefore don't eat: Brains, hearts nor livers.

One could argue that most muscle groups are vital, one way or another. Generally speaking, that's why they kill animals before butchering them up. While I suppose that you could surgically remove the haunch of a pig without killing it, you'll still end up with an animal that can't fucking walk, and needs to be put out of its misery anyway. Harvesting meat from animals, leaving bags of skin that need to be kept on life support, is just a sick notion.

And why let delicacies such as livers go to waste? If you do that, any given animal will be able to feed less people, necessitating the slaughtering of even more animals. You're not doing a terribly good job at ethics here.

    Mwahahaha! I'm harcore!

You know, in some places, eating the still-beating heart of an animal grants you that animal's spiritual traits. Why may explain my venomous tongue and my ability to fuck people up without effort. Hmmm... Someone bring me the still-beating heart of a kick-ass artist!

I object to eating liver on the grounds that it is the toxin filter of the body, and thus equivalent to eating the filter of a smoked cigarette.

I don't have any ethical problems with the slaughtering of animals. I just don't eat vital organs. Throw them away, feed them to the pigs, what do I care, but I am not eating it, and neither should you.

I stand by Rosie's remark. Also: the texture.

You still haven't brought forward any other argument against the consumption of offal other than your highly subjective view that it somehow contradicts Nature.

Come on, you're the lawyer around here. Give us your best shot.

Having discovered what eating the liver of certain animals can do to a person, I'm not over-keen. Then again, they're on the very short list of bits I won't eat, so, y'know, whatev'.

I realise I have come to this forum fairly late in its existence, and slap me in the face if I overstep some bounds here, but how many Australians do we really have here?

...I'm honestly not sure. You and me and Vorak for certain, and there's a couple more I'm fairly certain are residents of this big brown land, but unfortunately most of 'em seem to have drifted off.

Arcanum must have gone particularly well in Scandinavia and Australia given the insanely disproportional ratio of members from those places.

EDIT: That's it. I'm officially dyslectic.

They may be cute, furry and playful while they're alive but once their dead you could just as well eat them. People who say they won't eat certain kinds of meat, horse, cat or rat, have obviously never been sufficiently hungry or concious about nutrition.

Brain tissue ? Heart muscle tissue ? Liver tissue ? In the end it all ends up as a rather unappealing pulp on the bottom of the stomach. Just like regular meat, fat, intestines or eyes, ears and tails, ends up being digested, assimilated and comes out the other end.

Humans can digest a very broad variety of foods and I see no reason not to capitalize on that fact. Some things are more toxic or difficult to digest then others but as long as it is considered edible, a healthy human organism will manage. As long as moderation is applied, getting the shits is the worst that can happen... With possible exceptions of eating contaminated or otherwise poisonous food... Or junk food.

Why would I base my eating habits on anything but but my own subjective view?

I have no problems with eating any kind of animal, though I don't like the taste of pork, with the exception of bacon. If I'm sufficiently hungry I will of course eat anything, hell I'd eat human hearts if I was hungry enough.

So long as I'm living in an abundance of food, however I choose not to eat vital organs nor humans for that matter.

You suggested that the rest of us should not eat animal viscera; I'm simply curious as to why. Subjective arguments aren't too weighty in that context.

Well, Wobbler said it best I guess:
    And that is why.

But by all means, if you want to eat it, good for you. I'll pass though.
