Thieves Underground Darkest Power Quest

Um hey im kinda new here so bear with me... For one of the Tarant Thieves Underground quests i have to find a potion of darkest power from mr. fitzgerald but when i lock pick his chest it always fails and when i use unlocking cantrip that doesnt work either... and if i try to kill him and bash the chest then the guards come. Is there any other way to do this?

 

How much lockpicking skill do you have, and what's your magickal aptitude? It could be you're just not skilled enough for it yet.

You could put it off, level up, put more points into lockpicking or spells, or just, like, sneak or go invisible and plant an explosive on or near the chest.

 

good point....but im at level 20 and have 75 magical aptitude so shouldnt the unlocking cantrip work?

 

Have you tried using a looking-glass rifle? Just stand back as far as you can, then shoot it. I know your a mage, but it still might work.

 

Your level doesn't matter. If the lock difficulty is greater than 75, you won't be able to unlck it. I'm afraid I don't know the difficulty of that particular lock offhand. You are, um, targeting the appropriate object, yes? (Hey, it happens.)

Is that house on the tech side of the Great Tarant Magick/Tech Zone? Too lazy to check at the moment.... Anyway if it is your MA will go down, and your Unlocking Cantrip won't be able to unlock things with greater difficulty....

MC, YOU try using the Looking Glass Rifle with 75 MA and no firearms skill.

 

I've done that quest several times and never been able to get that chest open with anything but lock picks, but it's fairly complex because I usually need at least expert level to open it.

On the other hand, I've managed to walk right in there and steal everything from the guy without killing or alerting him or the guards, if I do it very carefully and time everything just right by bashing the chest open with a Mystical Chakram. You have to tell your followers to back off, have the door shut, and watch the position of the guards and skip your turn if they are anywhere near you on the street outside. As long as you do that, they will not hear you, so they will leave you alone, at least until you leave, and probably then. Timing is everything when doing it this way, so be sure to save before starting this if you try it. It may take more than one try to get the timing right.
