That would work well, but what happens if the player is female? Would he then check for a fancy dress etc instead?

Of course. He could check for rings as well, implying that married women shouldn't fraternize with unknown men, or something like that, in case of a worn gold ring.

In the case of half-orcs and half-ogres, however, the fashionable clothes should have a reversed effect. "Hah! Why, look at that, a half-orc/ogre playing civilized! I say, did you steal that from someone, hmm? Now, run along to your foreman/owner before you start to upset people. Off you go!"

Wait, so if the player is a half-Orc or half-Ogre, then they can't talk to him at all?

Or would they have to wear rags to talk to him?

"Ahh, suitable clothes for such a creature. Speak, if you can."

Almost. If the check hits any fine clothing, he won't talk with them. Any other clothing will do, I guess. "Yes, underling, what is it that you need? Make it quick." could be a suitable reaction.

Ahh, I get ya. So no rings, top hats, smoking jackets or suits etc, but, what about quality servants' clothing? Like the white clothing found in the Bates mansion?

Actually, why would this hat dude even talk to common half-Orcs/Ogres? Maybe they would have to wear the quality servants' clothing, to show that they are "owned" by a high class individual.

"Ahh, your owner must have sent me a message! Speak, if you can."

You're right. I like that. Especially the "speak, if you can" part.

I forget the exact name of the white servant's clothes though.

Dam, this thread has made me wish to be a part of Peter Quincy's mod project, but Quincy is an elitist. :(

That's not going to help you getting there. But, hey, maybe suggest it to rryro for AWIP. Or, do some modding of your own. "Posh people in Tarant/Ashbury". It would somewhat fit the game, actually. Why would any rich gnome want to speak with a half-orc/ogre?

I've been following this thread and liking what I see.

Quincy: Your mod will probably be out before I get Monaco constructed, so I'm looking forward to seeing these fashion checks in action.

Quincy, Wolfsbane, & GarmGarf: You've put forth some good ideas for fashion checks in a rich city. I'll see if I can implement them when the time comes.

When this thread has run it's course I'll print it out for reference.

GarmGarf: Wolfsbane's mention of you making a mod - Give it a go!
There's a million things to learn to do the job right, but it is quite rewarding.

Thanks for the encouragement, however, I'm already involved in a few non-Arcanum related projects at the moment, and school just started up again, so I don't see myself having the time.

Still, I'd love to see such things implemented in your project!
