The latest patch doesn't seem to remove the level cap.

I have updated Arcanum twice (1070 & 1074). I have just one 'partner'/NPC with me, and he has been at level 50 for a looong time now. And so have I... I should have been at level 53 by now, but nothing ever happens when I am supposed to gain a new level. Is this part of the patch-enhancement (the removal of the level cap) just a big lie? By the way, my game is totally UNhacked, and original.

No patch was ever intended to remove the level cap. The removal of the level cap is a totally user-made innovation, which people have mixed results with. In my opinion, while going past 50 would be nice, it would also wreck the game as characters became ridiculously overpowered.

Donno, my character never reached level 50 but she could cut anything in half with one swing... and the sword I used wasn't even anything special.

Are you sure about that. I once had a character that could persuade you to run around naked with a really embarassing sign if she wanted to. I also had a mage that could kill you by just looking at you and an ogre that ate ore golems and other strong enemies for breakfast, lunch, and supper. Of course with a dessert for each one.

    That's not totally true, Jarinor.

You said no patch ever intended to remove the level cap. Which is wrong. The CREATORS from the start did not intend to to break the cap, but they surely made those patches 'cause they are official patches-and they sure intended to break the cap eventually. And they did so due to 'popular demand'. And your own opinion that it would destroy the game-balance if the cap is removed, is well-not really the subject here, is it? The original question in mind was targeted at an OFFICIAL patch, and if it was delivering what it was supposed to do. Your personal taste is not really that thrilling. But, by concidering the other replies, I must admit that your answer at least was the most interesting. And that says more about the other replies than yours.

    Dude, read my lips:

THERE IS NO OFFICIAL LEVEL CAP REMOVER.
All the level cap removers out there were made by FANS. They use hacked versions of the arcanum.exe file, and they come with new experience point tables.

NONE of the official patches was ever supposed to allow you to level up past level 50. Really. If you want to level up past 50, you're gonna need to get an unofficial patch for that from our downloads section.

    Did IQ just drop here?

Funny. Is http://arcanum.sierra.com/ official or not? Is Sierra official or not? Who financed the game do you think? Who published it? Sierra or not? Sierra has released 2 patches. The first was named 1070, the latest was named 1074. Quote: "...To update, first download the Arcanum 1.0.7.4 patch from Sierra..." If you bother to install the latter AND read the readme-file that comes with it you will see it has a section that discusses the level-cap, and what they claimed to have done with it. Or am I suppose to regard both patches from Sierra as UNOFFICIAL? Really? Who says so? Dude? I know a place where you can place a kiss with your read-able lips, Dude.

    Stop The Press, duh...

You can ofcourse skip to download the patch and just check what the 1074-patch from Sierra does by go to http://arcanum.sierra.com/, and visit the support-section for details surrounding the update.

Quote: "...By popular demand, you can continue to gain experience at level 50. At the point where you would normally advance to the next level, you will remain at 50 but any followers will level up. Then you are reset to level 50 and can continue to advance. In this way, you can eventually level all followers to 50, no matter what their level when they joined you...."

I connot stop laughting! Peewee! WOW!
Sorry. heh. What the problem is, is that you are showing us the official patches for the game. NOT THE CAP REMOVERS. In the latest patch, what happens is that when you hit lvl 50, your followers continue to advance till they do the same. Unlike in the previous versions. The level cap remover allows you to level past 50. Do you see the differenece? Sorry to spoil your fun if you thought you uncovered some hidden back entrence to a hack section on the Sierra page, but Azaroth and Duncann are responsible for the cap removers. You can find both removers (one for each version) on our downloads section. While you're at it, be sure to get the expanded xp chart from our hack and mods section as well....
