Hey, if I was the leader of a country, that is a dictator, I'd be enforcing complete freedoms. Well, most of the time anyway...

Well these are the extremes, you see.

Complete social libertarianism on the political compass is anarchy. With anarchy, everyone has the freedom to limit each others' freedom. They should have thought before they composed that compass module eh?

Anyways, the dictator I gave an example of wasn't enforcing that people are living free; the dictator was enforcing that people's freedoms wouldn't be compromised by anyone.

The elected government limited people's social freedoms, but just didn't enforce them. There is an example of a particular case of this (not a whole government limiting everything and enforcing nothing; but a government limiting one thing yet not enforcing it), it being cannabis in the Netherlands. But then again, they should of thought about that before implementing it, eh?

That's actually a neat idea. A dictator that executes you if you don't make your own choices.

"Hell Bill, can you pass me the salt?"

"Sure Jane, but don't tell anybody I obeyed an order, okay?"

That would be when the Freedom Gestapo would burst through the window and gun down everybody in the room.

Ok, now there's a country with laws so strict no one wants to enforce them. I'd start breaking laws just to see if anyone was willing to catch me.
What's the point? People live under a government through fear or respect, but hopefully a healthy mix of both. This elected lackadaisical counsel of asses garners neither, and honestly I'm shocked that they came to such a position as elected leaders of a country. What did their platforms look like? Truly, it must be a nation populated by idiots.

Too bad there was no "What the fuck do I care" choice of response or I...maybe...would've taken the quiz.

The question any would-be dictator should ask himself is whether Huxley was more brilliant than Orwell.

Oh please. It is quite a stretch to call Huxley's vision of the future a truly dystopian society, unlike Orwell's.

Aldous Huxley wrote Brave New World which I actually prefer to 1984.

Who cares if the empire fails to live up to the dystopian cliché as long as you get to reign supreme? Deprive people of any chance of happiness and chances are, you'll be faced one day with an uprising you cannot contain. A people can only serve without questioning your command if they are perpetually held in a state of passivity. Deception is the art of war, so let them have their illusion of happiness. After all, a ban on books isn't nearly as effective as a state of mind oblivious of the very thought of reading one.

Of course, you may have to cut out the whole boot forever stomping on a human face affair, which is regrettable.

I always come out around the center whenever I take this. Usually within +/- 1 on either side.

Huxley's dystopian future seems less dystopian because it is portrayed through the eyes of the fortunate few who are in positions of power. Only in a few cases (such as the scene with the Gammas) do we see how fucked it is for them there.

And I fall between you two:

Ironically, while I'm quite loose on most regulation, I'm adamently against marijuana, and a big fan of government regluations of all corporations.
