How about we replace the Despotism with an Oligarchy?

Since we've got the new forum, lets talk about alliance matters there.

There's not really an "in house discussion" area for discussing sensitive material.

Hey, once you go black, you never have to talk to the brown guys again.

Yeah there is. It's called the Member's Lounge. Only people who are "in house" can read it and post there.

In a sense it is an Oligarchy. For example, The High Commissioner's going to be responsible for establishing embassies with other nation's as he (or she) sees fit. The only issue is that the Lord President and Prime Minister can also order him around if necessary. For the most part though, I expect people to "do their job" with the PM or someone else only having to step in if someone's not around for a few days and we need something done.

Yes, but then the American government is an oligarchy too. :p

I think we should establish an elite which have the right to vote for a president, who in turn appoints his government.

The president does what ever he wants as long as it doesn't violate the charter, or if the majority of the "elite" does not object.

Senators? Electors? That sort of thing, you mean?

Reminds me a bit of the dreaded pirate Black Barty, who had a House of Lords (rly) among his crew; these guys apparently had all the votes (or more than one each) when it came to councils and such.

Having a elite that votes sounds like a great way to scare recruits away.

Better then to subtly edit the polls.

I'm thinking like a council of elders, if you get my drift.

Hmm...then I misunderstood "members". I thought it meant all members of the forum, and not just members of the alliance.

I can read there too. But I guess members mean people you want to have reading your posts.

It's too much like how the Romans did things. Are we The House of Lords, or The House of Over-paid, Under-achieving, Slack-jawed Elders**?
I hate the government the US has right now, and I'd like to get what we do as far from it as possible. By instating a democracy. Everyone does get a say, and it won't be the sole decision of those with the most power to choose what's best for the alliance. I mean, sure, the plebs and their votes probably won't matter, but they're what makes an alliance strong. Piss off a bunch of plebs and you have a riotous mutiny.

**Wow...I didn't really expect it to come out as The HOUSE.

While every member of the alliance will be able to vote (which I personally agree with), do note that higher ranked members have more votes than lower ranking ones (for example a baron has more votes than a lord).

I understand that part, and agree with it. I just don't agree with the council of elders as suggested by Xz.

Its simple, we just make sure that nobody we don't like gets to high of a rank and at the same time make sure everyone we do like gets a high rank.

The elections will be essentially rigged, but we won't have to admit it.

That's only when it comes to accepting a Prime Minister's nomination though. I'm undecided about whether it should be expanded to all votes, as it means each Member who votes has to post a reply with "Aye" or "Nay" in the thread and then those votes have to be counted and tallied by The Lord Chancellor. It'd be fun but it'd also be work. How many people here want that as opposed to a straight out poll with a yes / no vote with everyone's vote being the same value?
