    Ring Lord,

I'm pretty sure that isn't correct, as far as LotR is concerned. The only real changes made over the years are (AFAIK):
    1. some errors in earlier prints were fixed, obviously
    2. a number of spelling changes were reversed (dwarves vs. dwarfs, elves vs. elfs)... the editor originally changed Tolkien's spelling to more "correct" forms, but this was undone in later prints
    3. a number of appendices were added
    4. different maps were used (there are prints with maps by Christopher Tolkien, but older prints have maps by someone else I think. Also, did you know that some versions of LotR have illustrations created by a Danish princess, who liked the story so much she sent in some art?)

However, I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as different "versions" of the story, and Sam Gamgee has always been Sam Gamgee. I'm going to have to check with Oyarsa on this, though, as he's more of an expert on things Tolkien than I am.

Tolkien himself re-wrote the story(he chaged some and added some parts about Aragorn)

"Also, did you know that some versions of LotR have illustrations created by a Danish princess, who liked the story so much she sent in some art?)" -- That's pretty cool, Calis. There are also some versions of the hobbit that include some of Tolkien's watercolors. Very nice.

    "NO NO NO NO NO
Tolkien himself re-wrote the story(he chaged some and added some parts about Aragorn)" -- Burden of proof is on you Ringlord. I've owned multiple copies and have read up on some of the history of publication and have never run across that. Two options come to mind as explanation, though. One, its part of an added appendix. Two, it is one of Tolkien's other pieces about Middle Earth. I believe on of the later books included the story of Aragorn and Arwen.

"the first version was published in the 50's
and the second version in 1971(not sure)" -- There have been many editions, but all essentially the same version. Again, burden of proof is on you.

Look RL, get your language clear. If I quote you, don't turn around and correct it as though I am missing your meaning. You said version.

As for name changes, are you talking about a translation or a copy in the original English. Because if its the English then whatever you read is was not The Lord of the Rings. If you continue to insist otherwise I repeat: the burden of proof is on you.

I think you should quote some ISBN numbers if they exist, or tell us Publishing House, Edition, Year and Print run. If you own the books, that information should be availble somewhere inside them.

If not, let me know how sure you are about the existence of these editions/versions and maybe we can help you find them - if it exists it's on the web.

Thanks, Sheriff, for the constructive suggestions. They tend to be rare in these parts.
