Why does the game get a m for mature sexual themes i havent seen any yet

Well, you can "have sex" in this game including sheep being your partner though why it got M rating beats me - after all it's standard screen fades, you wake up exhausted and get a comment of sorts w/o explicit language. BTW in which country did it get "M"?

In Tarant, there are a few 'ladies of the evening :wink: ' at Madam Lil's. Nothing too serious. You pay them, walk into a room, they say something dirty,you black out, wake up.

Well, over here it got M, but for some reason it's an American rating, not Australian...anyway, it's for 'Blood, Mature Sexual Themes and Violence.'

 

Well, I'm pretty sure it got an M here. Not sure what for though, but hey, it deserved. Liberal splashings of blood, decaptitations etc etc etc. It's not exactly G or PG stuff is it?

 

Believe it or not, I've never actually fought a Mountain Lion/Cougar, but my friend tells me that their heads either explode or fly off after a critical hit... :-?

 

That happens to everything. Try playing as a half-ogre who focuses on nothing but fighting skills. Later in the game, you'll get tons of critical hits and limbs and heads will go flying everywhere! I even think I saw him disembowel somebody one time... uke:

That might contribute to the M rating. O yea, there is the massive orgy in stillwater. Probably also has something to do with it.

 

Question is do all games with lots of blood in them get M? I once read that the main problem with Phantasmagoria (in US at least) wasn't all the gore in the game but the fact that there was some sort of a rape scene (with clothes on).

Exactly. Virgil's "extracurricular activities" caused certain people on the Ratings Board to cringe in memory of their own nocturnal hobbies and thus bestow an M rating in hopes that consumers would not connect them with Virgil and sheep-bonking.

 

On that point... I wonder who Virgil was really based on?

Yup. Arcanum's got an M rating here too. Maybe the mature sexual themes thing is with that golden statue in stillwater that is naked. It shoes that area above the waist with enough light to see the breast. Movies get rated R for that.

 

Phantasmagoria has something to do with ghosts I believe. I could be wrong on that, I knew it's meaning back in 1996 though, but I've forgotten it. Pretty sure it got to do with ghosts and supernatural stuff, but it definitely has nothing to do with rape, sex scenes or getting M ratings. Unless, of course, ghosts are considered to scare the shit out of impressionable little children, thus needing an M rating (however unlikely that may be).
