Your statement is written as if it's happening now.

You know, mabye if it wasn't an Arcanum based forum, then it wouldn't be dying. For if you think about it, the game Arcanum has been out for nearly 2 years?

Merging may be a good idea...I hardly show up here, so my oppinion doesn't really matter. :)

Do it. Merge. It'll boost The Codex (which attracts a bunch of intelligent people) and bolster Arcanum. Keep in mind not everyone can handle the likes of Rosh and Saint_Proverbius. And never expect to see Sheriff Fatman ever again. He's been banned from the Codex. So he couldn't come over.

Seeing as I peruse both forums, I'm okay with it. It will be a bit sad to see T-A go though. :sniff:

... and what the hells' this bullshit about the forum deteriorating? As far as I know, NMA ran on the same DC script for about 7 years with nary a hitch. I'm likely to be wrong about this though...

It's not like the phpBB code is suddenly going to rot...

No, what I'm saying is that we don't have anyone to upgrade the forums. This isn't a problem as of now, but it will be when phpBB moves on, and the hackers learn how to hack 2.0.4.

If you merge with Codex, I'm afraid you won't be seeing me again. Saint_Proverbius hounded me off the site with his mate Rosh after I offered some criticism for a review he did.

He goaded me every time I posted then ended up banning me after he had wound me up enough to retaliate.

Apart from anything else, RPGCodex is not interested in hearing all points of view - just the party chants of "3D bad, 2D better", etc.

I wasn't going to say this, because I didn't want to knock a project in which Calis was involved, but since it now has direct bearing: RPGCodex - and specifically the cadre of narrow-minded users led by Saint_Proverbius - is why I stopped posting on T-A. His attitude, and the way he abused his mod powers there when faced with a debate he couldn't win by saying "Look, sonny" caused such dis-illusion in my thinking towards the RPG community that I lost interest in participating in it.

However, having said that, I have not found any rays of new hope to rekindle my faith in the RPG community, so I'll not exactly be posting a lot whether the merge goes ahead or not. Either way, good luck to HoL. It gave me a lot of fun and introduced me to some damn fine people.

Thanks for replying to my email Sheriff. (joke) The least you could've done is type in what you did above. We still have a chance. A very interesting application has come in, and things are not looking so glum... The forum IS SAFE for now... but we need other capable people, I can agree on leaving the site as is, creating a new forum here, FUCK THE CODEX, (no offense) and hope a capable php coder will come around sooner or later... But right now, it doesn't look as if that's the probable scenario.

Jinxed, if you had the cash in your pocket, I would say go with IPowerWeb. It has a great plan for about all the space you would need (unless you hosted a LOT of programs), as well as all you would need for hosting phpBB. Now, they also come with a free domain name if you register for at least 1 year. The price isn't too bad either; $7.95/mo. (US). But that's only if you have the money to spend.

    1. Stay at a maximum distance from that RPGCodex Crap.
As far as I am concerned, the only thing that would happen with that is that HoL would die.

    2. I have some skill with PHP, and I could upgrade that to Mad Skillz with PHP if I had a reason to.

I could probably learn PHP (I have a tutorial book and everything), if I could get Apache and PHP to work on my Windows XP system...

I've only been looking in at RPGCodex for a couple of days now, but it doesn't actually seem any more lively than the HoL. I'm unclear on how a merge would revitalize the forum. I'd like to hear more about the plan, but I also know it wouldn't matter in the end.

Xento, PHP isn't the most difficult of languages to learn, and you don't even have to try to install Apache on WindowsXP. Don't you already have a webhost that allows at least some use of PHP? Anyway, maintaining a phpBB installation isn't exactly rocket science.

Lots of people know PHP. I know it, Icairus knows it, give Xento and my rabbit a week and they'll know it too. (Okay, give Xento two weeks.) The issue seems to be that a close, trusted friend of Jinxed needs to volunteer for the job. Maybe he just needs to get a rabbit....

wow, possibly merging with rpgcodex, (well maybe not now), i do occasionaly check out rpgcodex, but never the forums, it would be a shame to see T-A go down like that but if there's no other option then i say save this place as much as we can.

regarding the news writer's position, a couple of friends of mine MAY be interested, what is involved exactly, will it be totally arcanum based or is it open slather so to speak.

    Oh noez! Hax0rz!!1!1!

PHP upgrades aren't the hardest things in the world to install.

... and again, it's not like the forum code is suddenly going to rot within the next 3 months just because Calis has left.

The main problem will be upgrading the main pages, as they're all PHP based. That's the real concern.

The good news is that updating the main T-A page won't be a problem. Jarinor said he will be a newsie, and so will I. More good news is that we now have a very capable content editor. Pretty lucky of us I guess. What we need is one more person for content, and a php coder. I've emailed Sheriff Fatman twice about the editor job, he didn't reply, if he would've, we wouldn't have to change anything, because it's just one staff member that I'll continue to look for.

I'm still giving it more time.
