Since no REAL applications are coming in, I started take a different approach, I talked with Saint_Proverbius, who works for the RPGCodex... He suggested we merge the sites...

What exactly am I talking about?

Well, T-A will still have it's own independent site, which will cover all troika news and stuff. But the news will be linked to the Codex, as well as the forums...

    Yes.

Calis said he will give it a shot to merge the forums... Actually one, to be exact. The General Discussion. The rest of the forums will be under a category "Terra-Arcanum Forums". This doesn't sound all that bad does it? Only catch is that the whole member database WILL BE LOST.

I'm asking you, the newbies, the oldies, the hardcore regulars, what do you think? I want the site to live on, will you register anew on the codex, and post there? I'll be admin there, Snowmane will be a mod, but of course, the place won't be the same as it always was... I'll be able to transfer your custom ranks, but the avatars remain in question.

So does that mean that the RP section and everything else will still be linked to the TA site, but the database for the GD forum will be linked to the Codex? If it's still one site then maybe, as long as I can keep my custom rank and stuff (I don't want to have to start over to get that), but if it means having to visit two different sites then you can count me out unfortunately because I barely have time to come here anymore, let alone having to go to another site!

Instead of linking the GD forum to the codex, wouldn't it be easier to simply create a NEW forum, entitled something like 'Codex Discussion' and then simply link that forum to the codex database instead of this one? That way, those who want to remain just here can carry on without any problems but it allows any of those who are interested to participate in the codex too. It would be like having a shared portal linking both sites so that both sets of members could participate. :)

No, they will host our ENTIRE forum, but only the GD will be merged. And the news comments forum will be one as well.

The T-A theme will be available in there as well... It might even get its finishing touches.

Well, just to put my 2 cents in, I'm sick over it. I don't want things to change. There's my opinion.

But, who am I to decide. If this forum will die if we stay here, then.......who knows......

    *hooks thumbs into lapels*

Wel-l-l as the spokesman for the Newbie population and the most fantastic guy present, I say the move both interests and arouses me.

You have my blessing to go ahead and do whatever you want, you little minx.

Yea well, good luck on bringing the forum back when it gets hacked, suddenly goes off-line for no particular reason, or when an upgrade is in order. With the codex, we are guaranteed all that.

My dear Jinxed. You've already got MY opinion, what use is any other?

What the heck do you want us to say? It's the ogre's choice you're giving us, make it easy on us and just do whatever you guys gotta do.

    ^ Indeed.

While the move would make me sad, I don't think that's of any consequence to anybody but myself. If there's no other choice, go ahead and do it, we'll see how it goes, we'll see whether people would still come and post and hang out and enjoy themselves. It could work, or it could also be the final nail in this community's coffin so to speak.

Opinions are requested but the impression is that none of them will matter. Like in the other thread, a request for help is issued to the community at large, but the impression is that only those few Old Guard Regulars are really wanted. What's the point of either thread, besides the general commiserating? Ask whom you will for help with the reporting and programming, and keep your own council about whether to move/merge/destroy the boards, and don't pretend that the opinion of the TA community matters apart from the Old Guard you already know personally.

(That came off a bit negative and defeatist, didn't it. Apologies.)

That's where you are wrong Canis, I will not go ahead with the move, if you guys don't want it.

The decline in newbie influx is because of the lack of news/content. With the move, the site will definetly get a kick start. And we won't have to worry about the coding.

But it can also stay... This however, could mean that T-A may suddenly dissapear, and won't be coming back. Because I'm no php coder...

It can be a friend of someone I trust, heck, it can even be their dog if it knows PHP.

I have some expierience working as a news editor, I used to do the pr work for another page. I could really make this work, but I NEED YOUR HELP!!

I'm sorry if it's already been decided on, but here's my opinion:

I see 2 sides to the issue:

    1. God dammit, you mean we're going to lose the entire database? That really sucks, while it's not a huge problem, it does suck.

    2. The move would be good for TA. The forum is dying, and I don't want it to dissapear. I'd say go through with the move, Jinxed.

Yes, I will post on the HoL no matter where it goes. T-A is my home away from home!

Well, I kind of like my post count, but the people at the Codex are also more along my lines of thinking, so I'm not opposed to the move. Besides, I already have an account there :D.

I'd say go with it. T-A is beginning to deteriorate too much, without any real matenance (meaning someone to fix up the board software), as well as dying from lack of users.

BTW, if we move, can we all, those of us who are regulars already, get a custom title? It would be kinda tough getting our post counts up enough to get one, again.

There is no way to transfer the data at all? Doesn't your server give you access to a PhpMyAdmin of some kind that can allow you to download and transfer the database?

We are already transfering the database throwing in our forums with our content into theirs. This is already a bitch, as Calis said. Transfering the member DB is... well, you would die trying.

Yes, it may be impossible to COMBINE two databases. So, I guess we have no choice but to pack our bags and head over there.

Maintenence? Dude, as of know our forum has the newest PHPbb upgrade, and has a couple of Calis(tm) tweaks.

But it can only last THAT long.

That's what I'm saying. After 2.0.4 goes old, so will the forums here.

Just wondering: Is the only php issue here the periodic upgrade and maintenence of phpBB? I'm a bit shocked you couldn't find somebody you trust to perform such a task. Everybody and their mother has phpBB experience these days, it seems.

Of course, if there are other issues I just hadn't noticed, never mind. :)
