I recall reading somewhere, back in my "Goth" days, that Vampire stories originally spoke of them having either three or four fangs: two on top, two on bottom (and I can't recall the layout for three), and that it was Hollywood who 'modernized' the vampire into only having two teeth.

 

The image of a vampire differs between different cultures. Vampires in Bulgarian folklore were believed to have a pointed tongue or a barb at the end of their tongue instead of fangs. Perhaps that third fang in some beliefs was supposed to be something like that.
