i hate my computer.

can anyone explain to me why i've had no volume since i moved this hunk of junk? and yes, they're plugged in, connected, and turned on, so no smart-mouth comments from the peanut gallery.

yes, i have a sound card. i used to have sound, then i moved, and now i don't.

 

Check if your card is fully plugged into the motherboard. If that's not the problem, you might need to reinstall the drivers. Shit happens sometimes. Are you sure your speakers are plugged into the correct outlets?

 

yeah, i double checked a couple times. this may sound like a dumb question, but how do i reinstall the drivers?

You know what would be awsome? If it were destructive interference. Your head and ears have managed to be reliably placed just so that you have been the wrong 1/2 wavelength away. That would be cool.

 

What model of soundcard do you have? Odds are, you have the drivers somewhere on a CD or floppy (depending on how old the card is). If not, run a search for the model name at drivers.com. Then install it.

but how would they have become uninstalled? it's not like i reformated my comp when i moved... i disconnected the wires, put the pieces in the car, drove to the new house, and reconnected the pieces... it doesn't make sense.

 

The only thing that would make sense is if something is plugged in wrong. Are you sure the speaker wire is connected to the right port on the motherboard? What kind of a setup do you have? If you have a subwoofer, make sure it's plugged in.

 

no subwoofer, and it's a dell, so everything's color-coded. all the colors are in the right spot... screw it, i'm gonna call tech support, the bastards...
