Surely. You can find it on the official cite of Fidel Castro, Simon Bolivar or Che Gevara. But on the other hand, I think Canada isn't so bad to blame it. Blame, please, Mexico, I do not like those Aztecs.

Er... They're more like the Spanish, since those Spanish guys wiped the Aztecs out, you know...

    ^^ Thank you, Master Maximus!

And the Aztecs were nice people. That sacrifice thing wasn't original, I can grant you that, but the pyramid thing was cool, although it wasn't original, now that I think of it. :/

It's not like people didn't WANT to be sacrificed. People were selected...by the GODS...to be rendered and then kicked down the stairs of a temple, headless and heartless. They were proud to be killed to save their people from hardship, and to be welcomed by their gods. Sorry about that. I just had to say something, sacrifice shouldn't really be taken so lightly.

Also those selected to be sacrificed got to live like a king for a year before they died, basically they got whatever they wanted.

As long as they didn't want to keep their hearts.

Er... No, that wasn't quite the deal. There was people being sacrificed every day. They couldn't've planned a guys sacrifice in a year before they killed him? Just imagine the lot of people living like kings...

Aww...those supplementary sacrifices would be about as valuable as a fart (keeping the lesser gods happy). The real sacrifice, to the head honcho of the Aztec Gods, was supposed to be a noble, and it was kept secret so noone would know except for the preists/preistesses, Quetzalcoatl, and, of course, the soon to be dead rich guy. They did, however, treat them very well. No sense in making their final year unpleasant. They'd start complaining as soon as they saw Quetzalcoatl, and he'd be angry at the rest of the village...yeah, would not end well.

You guys are joking right? My understanding of Aztec sacrifices was that the soldiers would go to war with their neighbors and bring back prisoners to be sacrified by the bushel. There's also evidence suggesting that many of them were tortured first to amplify the results... thats how they became such a strong and feared empire of S. America.

Interesting little side note; they say that the pyramids were shaped the way they were to allow corpses to fall all the way to the base, rather than some unlucky junior priest having to haul the mess down.

They used prisoners and peasants for the vast majority of sacrifices. But a big ritual day of sacrifices always started off with live it up for a year guy.

I'll stick with the theory that the pyramid was about the only large structure that ancient technology could create.

The Aztecs didn't live in S. America. They were from Mexico.

The last time I was in Mexico, the tourguide did say something about the corpses of the sacrifices being kicked down the stairs of the "pyramid", headless and heartless, to be carried to a chosen dumping ground by someone at the base. Then, when I got home, I saw a presentation on the History Channel about how the Aztecs killed their sacrifices, mentioning how they would get the lesser sacrifices during war or some skirmishes; no sense in depleting your own population to please a god. However, the people that were chosen a year in advance were Nobles to be sacrificed to Quetzalcoatl, and were to be treated as kings, due to the nature of this god.
