So, hopefully this week I should be getting a copy of W7 for work. At that point, I'm going to be torture testing it for Arcanum compatibility, when I came up with an interesting idea: Why don't do a patchless competition? Get as many people are interested (if anyone is), to install Arcanum, and run it without patching it. Screenshots need to be provided, of course. The goal would be to notice as many differences as you can, and to beat the game.
I finally succumbed (it's Dragon Age Origins' fault, I swear) and am now dual-booting with W7. Mind you it's minimal though, I have separate user accounts for each game so that explorer.exe is never, ever runs on my laptop. Arcanum seems to work fine with no3d and doublebuffer if that helps with your torture testing, albeit I cannot get A:WIP going - no UAC, compatibilty mode etc. The character backgrounds work but none of the new areas seem to be included...
Unless you replace it with another "shell" which in my case is Arcanum. It's a registry DWORD somewhere, like I can remember which. I still fervently believe Windows is a bloated piece of crap but I can't entertain myself all day with alcoholism and old books
