I installed my system on a really low end hard drive that gets bad sectors and really often, I didn't have any choice. Of course, fate had it that I got a bad sector in my system files which created much more problems, after spending 4 hours in the incredibly slow Win XP disc doctor thingy, the computer reeboted saying something about the sys files. Whatever I tried, I couldn't get into windows. Ok, reinstallation. Right. I installed the win xp service pack 1 and got a "Windows has recovered from a critical error" message after restarting. WTF? It came on 2 or three times more. I thought it was some kind of joke. The next day I got THE SAME BAD SECTOR ERROR. And again, nothing I could do... But this time I used another hdd which I didn't bother to prepare last time. Reinstallation. Right. New system, just a couple of drivers installed, I launched the win xp sp1... Restarted my pc and to my surprise just as the welcome to windows thing came on, my computer restarted. The disc doctor thing came on, and SYS FILES GOT CORRUPTED. When the welcome was coming on, the computer restarts. Again and again and again... I tried everything, no avail... Guess what? REINSTALLATION!!! WEEE. This time I used the service pack just after installing windows, without anything else. This has got to be my worst Windows experience EVER. What the hell is in that service pack?
I don't know, but why don't you try using a BOOT DISK instead of constantly reinstalling Windows XP? It may fix the problems. Otherwise, I would say re-partition/format your hard disk drive and then try again.
If I wouldn't have a boot disk I wouldn't be able to format my main partition. Boot disks don't fix your problems. C'Mon people, I WANNA HEAR ABOUT YER WORST WINDOWS EXPERIENCE!!!
Using it to hear you bitch. Actually, the worst ones have been this computer corrupting every disk it touches, ensuring that no floppy inserted can ever transfer files to another computer. Or all the times NT crashed on the last day before our programming groups had to hand in assignments.
that os much worse than my experience with windows jinxed... i only got this one message with something missing... i got it no matter how many time i reinstalled with the same result. then i just called the service-people and they fixed it....
Don't use the service pack The service pack is a microsoft-made virus, don't use it... you just said that the problem occured, shockingly enough, when you put the service pack in. Either that or there is something physically wrong with your hard drive and thus software is not being able to fix it.
