Okay people mentioned technical manuals. From what I understand they give 'advancement' points in a certain discipline saving precious char points for other disciplines/stats. Two quesitons: 1) Where can I get them? I'm only in Tarant so far and I am to go to Ashbury. I looked in Tarant Library but there are none (only Dread Armor History, some guy's journal and such). Is there some quest that you must accomplish to be able to buy them, or some level requirement for them to appear? 2)If you have say 70pts in some tech discipline thanks to these books - does it allow you to spend char point to choose to learn making more advanced things 'out of order' (ie get 70pts in guns thanks to books and place char point in looking glass rifle w/o spending char pts on earlier stuff - flintlock, revolver...)
the books are in Tarant - one building to the northeast of the library you cannot skip advancement levels (which means the books are only good for found schematics, not learned schematics) ~Aldin
Look for the University Bookseller. He's in the building with the Phrenologist, the Demonologist, and the guy studying the pagan gods.
Thanks I never actually noticed that room  One more quesiton though. Is there some way to learn/read these manuals so that I'll get degree points but won't have to drag these books alone? One more thing. I want to make goggled helmet but Magnus (L30) can't make helmet of vision yet. I'm going to head off for the Isle of Despair. Am I going to be there for a long time before getting back on the main continent in such a place that I'll be able to reach Tarant? I'd like to know this as I'm unsure whether is any point in dragging those eight Mechanics manuals along just to make that helmet. BTW how many PE pts does it add?
nahh, you don't stay long on the isle, and you have to also lag those manuals around since there is no permanent way to learn 'em And the goggle helmet is +3 to per it's strange the pc favors the goggles than the goggle helmet sice the goggles are only +2 and no protecion
Yeah these chars act strage sometimes. For example Magnus favours eye-gear to spiked nose helmet while he's a melee char and needs rather protection than perception.
hide them find a chest or dresser somewhere you access a lot (rat wearhouse in tarant?) (inn in shrouded hills?) (gun meauseam type place in southeast blackroot) anywhere that is a frequent place for you to visit... drop them (i also keep quest items... stuff like that, pieces for schematics) in there. once you got the pieces, go back, get ur books out, and get smart . hmm its late.. i know their was another question i was gonna answer.. lemme check brb jamie
oh yeah isle of despair. you wont be their long.. but be warned.. once you leave... you can't go back.. their are about 4 or 5 quests you can do before you go.. so take care of it all before you leave. `maximillion / king `delivering to maximillion `helping the girl escape to the womans camp `saving the camp from the beast thing `accient gun (collector wants pieces from ancient shipwreck) their are 4 overworld locations and also a char you can get (the leader of the isle.. the dwarf guy) also you can get a reputation (pit fighter) so get it all done.. it really doesn't take that long, but make sure you get it all  peace. jamie
