My little sis bought this game for me for my birthday. I installed it last night, was only going to "look at it" for a minute. Played it for 2 hours. Sucked me in.

For those of you who don't know what it is (everybody, probably) it's an adventure game, a puzzle solver like Myst. You play a female lawyer, sent to an alpine village in France to buy out a factory that makes clockwork automatons. It's made by Dreamcatcher, and Microids.....(I'd never heard of them, either...)

It's no HOMM IV, no Civ 3, no Diablo II, but I am rather enjoying it. It really has beautiful cinematics, very smooth graphics, and a rather enchanting story. Beautiful music. You just have to see those automatons, in human form, marching in the rain in a funeral procession for the factory's owner in the opening cinematic. Very pretty. A couple of the voice-overs are just a wee bit cheesy, but otherwise fairly well.

If I get NOTHING else from this game, at least I now know how to properly pronounce "automatons".

{edit} Oh yeah, the female lawyer chick you play has a really nice ass.

You're mistaken. I still don't know whether I should get Syberia or the Longest Journey.

    Now that's an argument! 8)

I believe The Longest Journey employs Benoit Solko....Soklof....Sol...S....Whatever his last name is. Apparently he's the shit in Europe.

I tell ya what Dragoon.....I haven't had an adventure game do this to me before...And I'm not talking about the female lawyer's ass doing things in my pants..

There was something so.....eerie, yet sad in that opening funeral procession. The town you are in seems so beautiful, but as you began to explore it takes on a sad foreboding feel. Enchanting. That's the only word I know that comes close to describing it. Enchanting.

You've sold me! I was interested when Dragoon mentioned it before, but never followed up. I think I shall pop out and buy it at the weekend.

    Syberia or ass girl

Thats a rather interesting background for a game, i mean it sounds like a very boring game but i guess its more than just "Hello sir, i have a hot ass and would like your Automations and don't you dick me because i'm a lawyer."

Hey guys! I'm finally back online. New Zealand was... well, I can't say it was a blast, it was quite the opposite. In a good way. Beautiful scenery, nice people, laid-back.

Penang looks like a rubbish dump compared to it. Just can't get over the insane numbers of sheep everywhere.

I just borrowed Syberia from a friend. looks interesting. The opening cutscene really impressed me. Having a handphone is cool in the game. I don't know enough to give a solid opinion yet, though.

I would say The Longest Journey first, still. Chronological order and all. You won't regret it, trust me.

Just because we have someting like 20 sheep per person dosen't mean we're obsessed by them. Anyway; we have twice as many opossums these days.
Lets introduce possums they said. Great for starting a fur trade they said. God damn idiots released a monster we cant control. Dare God what have we done.
    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

If I could eliminate one animal entirely from Australia, it would be cane toads. Not only do I despise the fuckers just for existing, but they destroy everything they encounter if they stay long enough. I never pity the ones I see squished on the road. Only out of concern for the well-being of my shoes do I not jump up and down on them for joy whenever I happen across one.

You can blame that one on Bart Simpson.

So that's what gave you the "jump damage" idea for Morrowind.

Let me know how you like it. My wife, who has no interest in computers or gaming period, when I showed her the funeral procession movie, and kinda filled her in on the story, said, "Ooooooooooh. Can I play?"

Anyway, the rest of you, get outta here with your bart simpson sheepes humping derailing this fine thread!!@@!@!!!! Go make your own thread to poo in!!!! I swear......You'd think you were all incarnations of Ioo or something.

Wow. I've just looked at both of the reviews on a few sites - they both sound amazing. I think Syberia is more my style, but TLR looks excellent.

So many games, such little money.

    At ease.

You can find TLR in bargain bins easily. It still costs 10$ though :(

Bugger - I forgot I was going to buy this game today. I'm going to have to do a Milo and play it just as soon as I'm done with Divine Divinity, which I just installed.

From what I heard, it hadn't even been shipped to the US (looks like it has). Anyone know if it's out in Australia?

[EDIT] Whoa, forget that. I remember a mag over here doing a review of it.

    At ease. [/EDIT]

What's this "TLR" everyone's talking about?

This forum has been phenomenally active ever since I came back last week, btw. What's happened?

The Longest Journey. Like Syberia it's a classic style adventure game.

After reading some reviews of Syberia, I've decided that I must get this game. This is exactly what's been missing from the computer gaming scene for a long time; A good adventure game.

Once upon a time adventure games made up one of the most popular game genres. Indy 3&4, Monkey Island 1&2, Innocent until caught and Guilty (2 games in 1!). Just a bunch outta I can think of at the moment. Those were the times. Anyone elsi in for a rant on good ol' times?
