Having messed about with WorldEd a few times over the years when I've had Arcanum installed, I'd like to seriously have a go at making a mod. Now I love the Point Lookout DLC from Fallout 3 and the Swamp Fever soundtrack from Left 4 Dead 2, so my question to you lot is; Anyone fancy a mod set in a swamp?

Have a few ideas and I'm planning on having most things on the same map, basically a 'main' town and possibly one or two smaller settlements or outposts. Though I haven't decided on a main plot, so I may try to recruit some people to help make the mod.

I'd love to see such a mod, but I'd plan on building it yourself, and if help appears, then take it. Not to sound pessimistic, but those who can mod are slowly wading their way through their own projects.

    Fair 'nuff.

I'll probably use this thread to bunch ideas off people, least it would help to get ongoing feedback. Thus far I have the name 'Blood on the Bayou' kicking around in my head, adapt since I intend for bad stuff to be going on.

*Possibly a war going on in the background, so perhaps a PoW camp....though an unusually death rate.

*Smugglers, ties in well if I go with a war angle and such a blockade.....also some inspiration from the 1941 film The Ghost Train.

    *Creepy old mansion, very check.

*Night terrors in the bogs....mundane or supernatural?

    *And of course swampies!

You could build a pretty good and even complex mod around the five ideas you just posted.

The war and smugglers offers potential for tech-heavy scenes - only to have the player run head-first into a Lovecraftian nightmare.

I look forward to seeing this.

Night Terrors in the bog would have to be magical, of course. Summoned by an enclave of mages/witches whom don't like the interference the technology is giving to their witchcraftery/magical research.

I'm thinking perhaps in terms of motivation that the Player could be recruited as a 'troubleshooter' for the governor, especially if the governor is newly appointed. Even if the war had ended then the rationing would justify the smugglers.

Magick I suppose could be viewed as the 'Old Ways' amongst the swampies.

Also thinking of perhaps not bothering with a world map and just have like a ferry or something to enable people to get about, though it would be nice if I can somehow put in a paddle steamer. That said, the 'main' settlements would be connected by the ferry with a boatman taking the player everywhere else.

Question though, has anyone figured out a way to add music/sounds that actually works?

    The French did.

Go to arcanumlab.fr and grab a copy of "The Book of Shades" (English title).

Unpack it and you'll see how it's done.

Had a quick look, I was halfway there by creating a Music sub-folder in the Sounds folder.

They saved their own songs to the names in the soundindex file.

Point Lookout in Arcanum? Sounds like a pretty awesome mod. It's a damn shame it will be abandoned halfway through.

Do not forgot the half-sunken temples of forgotten deities, ghost towns, cannibalistic swampies, ancient curses, traitors and murderers.

    Heres what I'm going with in terms of background;

Point Ragnar was a small, backwater town located at the head of a swamp and seeing little outside interest. There is little in the way of industry aside from an ironworks, a failing mine and a few plantations scattered throughout the province. It was widely believed the town would continued its peaceful existence, unnoticed by the outside world, until Judgement Day.

    Then the War came.

First the blockade saw food and other supplies going into Point Ragnar dwindle despite the best efforts of a few foolhardy blockade runners. As the situation worsened people started moving away, fearful of the War right on their doorstep. The town was halfway to being a ghost town by the time the Commonwealth Army rolled through the area and claimed it as its own. With the Occupation things improved somewhat as the blockade was lifted and Point Ragnar regained its lifeline, though food is still rationed and a nightly curfew is maintained.

But as ever life goes on....

    ~ ~ ~

Now I'm thinking the PC could start by waking up in a prison cell beneath a courthouse with little idea why they are there, what more no records exist to explain what crime they supposedly committed nor anything relating to their very existence. They get offered a pardon by the new governor in exchange for doing a few jobs, mainly troubleshooting but also looking into the mystery that surrounds their imprisonment.
