That stout sounds intriguing...On my trip to Europe, I'll need to go to every famous (and not so famous) brewery to try it all.

Given the fact that I actually like odd beers like Hobgoblin, you may or may not listen to my advice. Who could have thought chocolate beer would be any good though?

I still fail to see how both chocolate and beer, both excellent can still taste as good together....

It stands to reason that if A = good and B = good, then naturally A+B = good as well, perhaps even twice as good as each singly. How can you possibly refute that?

True, but sometimes you can get 2 good things, put them together and they are shit....

But do the math, Tel! Unless there's some negative in that formula, the results must, at the very least, be as good as each ingredient by itself.

And if you ever put together two good things to make shit, as you so colourfully put it, I suspect the fault lies in your tastebuds.

Palate or palette? Therein might lie the answer to your problems of bad taste resulting from the admixture of two good things, my good man.

Yes....thanks for that Spuddy. It is like putting lesbians and midgets together. Both two great things that just don't match.

While we're at the A+B=Grandeur formula, I might add that the chili chocolate I just had made my tastebuds jump up and down with joy!

Well Van yes, when you add chilli and chocolate that is what you get, and remarkably VICE VERSA!
Though aI have actually seen chilli chocolate, but never tasted it.

Neither have I. How do the chocolate look like, is it like "normal" chocolate?

Hmm...did it look something like this?

    4 slices bacon, diced
    2 tbsp. oil
    1 c. chopped onion
    1 lb. ground beef
    28 oz. can tomatoes
    1 - 3 tbsp. chili powder
    1 tbsp. ground unsweetened chocolate
    1 1/2 tsp. garlic salt
    1 tsp. cumin
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    16 oz. can kidney beans
    1/2 c. chopped green pepper

In a heavy saucepan, saute bacon; stir in oil and onion. Add meat and cook until brown. Add tomatoes, chili powder, ground chocolate, garlic salt, cumin, and pepper; heat to boiling. Add kidney beans and green pepper. Simmer, covered, 20 minutes.

Or is it simply chocolate with chili pepper in it?

Though, I have to admit, the recipe I posted is for Chocolate Chili. I've had that before...it's quite good.

Yes they are some weird flavours. I saw recently on TV, British chefs competing for a chance to cook for the queen on her 80th birthday. One guy went to a chocolate shop and tasted lamb and chicken flavoured. Suprisingly he never chose that flavour for his dessert for the Queen though...

It was an ordinary looking chocolate bar, except it had a jolly red chili on the parcel and that nice, burning aftertaste. Who'd have thought those flavours mixed so well?

About now would be a great opportunity for a math genius to come in and tell us that A + B doesn't necessarily equate B + A... what's a rule without an exception?

Chocolate Chili or Chili Chocolate? Though admittedly, melting some chocolate and mixing it with chili sounds tempting the more I think about it...

No. It doesn't. It's just your brain playing tricks with you.
As far as I know, chocolate is a quite usual ingredient in Central America (Mexico and alike). But, I have no proof or link to confirm this, it's just something I'm sure I've heard. Somewhere. I hope.

I also believe that Cortez was given chocolate spiced with chili by the Indians...
