I've been playing Arcanum for a few hours now and am stuck. I am in Shrouded hills, have down as much of the mine as possible (have to go see Sarah), helped Doc Roberts foil the bank robbery, and ratted Jongle out to Constable Owens, who now has guards on the Steam Engine. I am unable to leave, since I agreed to help Owens clear the bridge and the bandits there won't trust me, nor am I strong enough to beat them in a fight - have tried literally dozens of times. I did not spend any CPs on pickpocketing and have been unsuccessful stealing the key to the gate bridge as well. Can sometime give me some advice on either what else I can do to level up in town (still need 1009XP to level up) or to get out of town and go to Dernholm? Thanks!

Well, I saw a few days ago a very interserting strategy to beat Lukan... you just have to drop in the floor neat them some Rusty daggers or Railroad spikes, then wait until each one has one and when you fight they'll be a lot easier because they'll hit you with those weapons (that are very weak).

I used the stun bombs, and grenades I found in the cave at the crash sight. consentrate on the ogres first, the thing about droping the daggers sounds pretty solid though.

If you just want to level first go back to the crash site. Then walk down past the altar, where Virgil suggests using the world map but DONT use it. Keep following the path and you will run in to some wolves. First there are 2 ailing and 1 regular. It's pretty easy to pick them off or lure them from each other since they are roaming back and forth in the area. Then follow the path some more and you will come upon I think a total of 5 or 6 wolves, one at a time of course. That should get you one more level.

....which you should use for Persuasion, which will make the game a lot more interesting and rewarding. Unless you're playing a stupid brute of a character, in which case just go ahead and beat the snot out of Lukan.

As the developer of that strategy, thank you. Not only do the RRSs & RDs do little damage, even with the 1/2 Ogre's ST bonus, they do NO FT damage at all! I was running a Gnome Barbarian through that one once & couldn't understand why the fight was hard. Then I saw that the silly Gnome had fogorten to put his armor on.

Oh, so it was you the one... yes I must thank you, Shadygrove, for the idea, because that makes the fight a lot much easier.

Canis, he just said he can't beat Lukan by fighting because he hasn't level enough!

Derek, when at the Crash Site, did you check out the cave there? A few more EX points can be had there. There are three Ailing Wolves behind the Bessie Toon, & finishing the mine will help too. There are three healthy Wolves north & east of the herbalist's shop. I know of a few more quests you didn't mention. You did talk to the junk dealer about the ring, didn't you?

If you haven't destroyed the steam engine, you must still have dynamite, just plant it near Lukan and his goons from a safe distance, they won't really see it as a hostile action untill it explodes, and then you'll have at least one dead ogre and two badly wounded other enemies to easily run them through with your rusty dagger;)

i think that once you agree to help the constable, lukan will know and its impossible to convince him. im not sure about this though...

Yes, and so we were talking about how he could *level up* a bit more before taking on Lukan & Friends.... :)

You can indeed convince Lukan you're from the Thieves' Underground even after agreeing to help the constable. That's usually the order I do it in. Lukan hasn't a clue.

Yes, I think you're right about the bridge materials.
