So, I took a long, hard look of myself in the mirror and realized that my body had gone saggy beyond belief. Suspecting that the split routine I would normally do wouldn't cut it, in October I decided to give this a go:

    http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5- ... g-program/

Not that I'm doing any heavy weights yet mind you. This week I've merely squatted 100 kgs and deadlifted 105 kgs (220 lbs and 231 lbs respectively). But progressive loading should take care of that rather quickly, or so I hope. I guess I'll stick with the Stronglifts routine until I can squat about 150 kgs and deadlift 200 kgs.

Anyway, I guess I just wanted to tell you lot that this stuff seems to work. Previously I would do split routines, which meant that I had to go through five workouts a week to train every part of my body, and that didn't honestly work all that well.

Finally a topic I can relate to, going to hit the gym hard are you Dark Elf? I've just been taking it easy over the last few months at the gym, mainly doing cardio but you've inspired me to hit it hard again. Let's post before pictures and then each month's improvement pictures.

I don't bother with gyms. I do a daily routine of a half hr stretch, 75 push ups and 75 sit ups in my living room, then out for either a 3 mile jog or a 1 mile run followed by 1 mile walk then another 1 mile run (I switch between the two each day), then 20 pull ups using my basement's rafters. Takes about 30 mins including stretching. Works wonderfully.

Magikot's avatar - his real body.

He never did fully get past the fetal alcohol syndrome, though.

Well, these seems to be some kind of training thread and I'm no worse than anyone else.

I don't care much for gym either, but I train Muay Thai 2-3 times a week and do 40 pushups, 30 squats, 30 back lifts and 30 situps twice a day.

And sometimes I take to the woods and run either a short distance (2-3km) with weighs (around 10kg for me) or around 6-10km without weighs.

I have the P90X exercise routine, but mainly I just do my own workouts with the push up grips and pull-up bar. I can do 17 pull ups, only 35 pushups, and 30 squats and I'm spent. Looking in to a martial art, thinking Okinawan karate.

My step dad teaches Okinawan karate. It's a lot of fun.

    Sweet, my exercise routine is:

Lift a glass of soda constantly the whole day
    Fork and Knife lifting
I work my fingers by typing here and in Flickr
And I go upstairs and downstairs 5 times a day.

=P joking, I'm a sports man, but not a gym man.

I was never an endurance kind of guy. I get winded easily (I think I could only run about 1 mile), but I can become very strong. I think it's a higher concentration of fast twitch muscle fibers and too much hookah.

I recently started my yoga back up. My back has been killing me lately.

Deadlifted 110 kgs yesterday, and damn did I feel tired afterwards. I've just got to face it, I'm in horrible shape.

I know the feeling. I think I'm going to try the stronglifts 5X5 the next time I go to the gym. The workouts I do at home last until I'm exhausted, which doesn't take much.

Never been much for gyms, hate the atmosphere and the fact that I'd have to pay.

Currently I'm doing 60 pushups and 50 sit ups followed by another 60 pushups twice a day. I had a lot of back trouble as a kid which means my core strength is absolute shit, I try to develop it as much as possible but quite often I'll tweak something before feeling even remotely exhausted.

Cardio is virtually non existent though, never been much of a runner so I'm considering taking up bushwalking again and just lugging around a 40kg backpack for as long as possible.

Finding time will be the worst of it though, I'm already up at 5:30 each morning, working 8-10 hours a day and back in bed by 1am - so more often than not I can't really be arsed doing anything, especially with my current routine.

Mind you, getting that little sleep is going to be detrimental for your training. I'd even go as far as to say that it's worse to skip a meal or miss out on a good night's sleep than it is to jump a workout.

You're probably correct, however with myself being me I struggle to even get that much at times. I simply cannot sleep unless I absolutely have to.

Still, dropping one workout and atleast trying to slumber a little longer is worth a shot.

If you do a series of workouts, say 3 a week, I find that the extra day in between is great for muscle recovery. I finish a week only so strong, but when I start up again on monday, I can do a few more reps or more weight, depending on my focus. I just started using a protein supplement that actually tastes good. If I substantially increase in strength over the course of my supply's duration, I'll know it works at least as well as the last one I took which I had to mix with bananas.
