http://community.livejournal.com/ohnoth ... 94738.html Junction Point (Makers of Deus Ex) and Disney are teaming together to make a Wii game called "Epic Mickey" which is to be set in a steampunk disney universe. It even features a Zombie Goofy! The concept art looks amazing.
If this is even fractionally as incredibly awesome as it looks, I'll be camping in the loungeroom of the only friend of mine who has a Wii until I finish it, because HOLY FUCK YES.
I most propably won't have the hardware to play this game, but it's good to know something as incredible as this is to be created. Here where I was sure originality died in the game industry years ago.
*tosses the shovel aside* I've been keeping track of this game since I first posted about it. Screenshots and more concept art as well as a slideshow trailer has been released. It doesn't seem as dark as the original concepts I posted appeared (it is Disney after all), but it does seem darker than most Disney games to date. Also a release period of Q3 2010 has been been stated by most sites.
Looks interesting. Reminds me of American McGee's Alice, the sequal to which I am hungrily awaiting. I love twisted versions of older stories. I really wish McGee's Oz game would've worked. But this Mickey concept has me hooked so far. EDIT: Saw the updated progress. It unfortunately looks a bit more dumbed down as opposed to the earlier concept art, but still has potential. I understand Disney's retarded infatuation with their public image, though I don't necessarily agree with it. I think a dark, steampunk-goth Mickey game for teens and adults would have been a homerun for the company considering all of us who have grown up with the Disney characters for the past 25 years. I know it's still early, but so far the actual game looks a bit too colorful and has apparently lost the steampunk theme quite a bit. If we're stuck with a traditional red-pants-M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E, at least give the game a little more bite and let the mouse swing a sword around, not a fucking paint brush. EDIT 2: Ok this gives the game a redeeming quality. Looks more interesting now.
It seems they removes most, if not all of the steampunk that the original concept art and article mentioned. Still darker than most other disney video games. Comes out in 2-3 months
The images in the original link look downright disturbing, a feature which is sadly lacking in most games, usually because publishers go chickenshit at some point in the development process and demand that things be mellowed out to fit a wider market. Silent Hill, anyone? Of course, now the chance of seeing that is nil and the game will be yet another pasty cartoonish cuddely-hoo eyesore of bloom. Potential wasted, as fucking always.
