Just watched it. Excellent movie, I enjoyed it immensely. I'm sure the trekkies will find fault with some of the minutia and decide they hate it, but I maintain that it was a totally badass piece of film-making from top to bottom.

I love the sound of starships going to warp speed as rendered by a high-quality movie theater sound system.

Also it was shot in a beer factory, so it must be awesome.

I'll probably not see it for at least a week, but all I ever expect from a movie is to be entertained as long as it does that I'm happy. The times a movie is really awesome are great, but don't expect it of everything you see.

Saw Star Trek and Wolverine yesterday. Star Trek was, by far, the better choice with better plot and another type of action which I prefer. Might see Outlander tonight (Vikings vs. Aliens, according to the Swedish poster). Expectations on top.

Outlander is pleasantly surprising, given how weird the description sounds. Worth watching.

I thought it was a good movie, but not what was needed to restart the franchise.

What we needed was Enterprise. And that failed for some reason.

    Enterprise failed because it SUCKED.

I was supposed to see the movie with my mum yesterday, but the fucking projector broke down during the pre-film ads. We're gonna try again tomorrow evening.

That reason was because it was god-awful shite with no plot and sub-par character development. They only started putting effort into the show in season 4 because they knew they were canceled.

    Poor DE. You're missing out.

I've just gotten back from seeing it, and I have but one thing to say.

HOLY MOTHER OF FUCK YES THANK YOU MR. ABRAMS *fangasm*

(My mother and I both have geek crushes on Karl Urban (McCoy), and I've got one on Anton Yelchin (an exceptionally adorable geeky Chekov). Well done Mr. Abrams, you have done the impossible and caused both me and my mother to fall for the same guy... who ISN'T Daniel Craig.)

    Love... *ahem*

Maybe tomorrow when the initial geek rush is over I'll get into WHY the movie kicks so much arse, free of spoilers. Because I'm nice.

Let's just say that spoilers SHIT ME THE FUCK OFF that of all the torments and frustrations inflicted upon me, they're one of the very few that I won't pass on to other people.

    Spoiler question incoming.

Now I'm not a follower or even a fan of Star trek but I do see the movies, is what happened in that movie meant to be how our Kirk became the captain, or is that just an alternative Kirk?

Definately alternate! I'm fairly certain the entire movie is an alternate timeline. What's awesome is that they managed to pull it off without me wanting their balls in a vice.

I enjoyed the movie - it managed to be a respectuful tribute to what came before and made me smile quite a few times at the references. There's one (ridiculously obscure) thing bugging me though that I'd likle help with:

    *geek*
Since Vulcan is gone now, I need to know wether the Midas Array is still in exsitence - was it built before or after the events of the movie? In the (now parallel) former universe it was instrumental in happenings for the Voyager series and I wonder how it will afect that. Of course if it still exsits, everything's peachy. */geek*

Hrm. I'm fairly certain the Midas Array wasn't built until some time after the original series. As long as the creator (and/or his/her parents, I can't remember much of Voyager truth told) survived Vulcan going boom, there's a decent chance that the array will get made.

This new movie (which I very much enjoyed, by the way) essentially invalidates all official Star Trek Cannon that happened any time after Nero's ship destroyed the Kelvin. This includes ToS, TNG, DS9, VOY, all the previous movies, etc. etc. I don't think of it so much as invalidating so much as a franchise reboot. A reboot that was desperately needed.
